What is unclear to me is the extent to which these things are all connected or are separate hate crimes. Maybe its unclear to everyone.

I donât feel this way about him. Heâs an attorney like me, so we are going to be biased in favor of legal institutions. Similarly, youâre a Canadian so you have a bias to think your society is somehow protected from the forces that are breaking ours due to superior culture or some other magical thinking. I really donât think attacking each other over stuff like this does much of anything good, however.

There is nothing magical about Canada. We have simply made better structural choices over 200 years and our culture is less selfish.
We are no utopia. Our next pm is set to be a right wing asshole.
Anyone who has not made a post about how wrong they were about consequences simply cannot be taken seriously. It takes only the smallest amount of self awareness to recognize that mistake.
I would bet he still thinks there is a chance Trump ends up in jail.

Canada just isnât as important as the US. So it doesnât get the same amount of attention from wealthy interests that want to hollow out your institutions. Meanwhile it has been the project of wealthy conservatives since the Civil War and of wealthy international adversaries since WW2-ish to wreak ours. Institutions, regardless of their structure, donât really matter all that much given enough time and money.

This is partly true of course but this deeply rooted refusal to look at the cultural sources of Americaâs problems is so self defeating. The selfishness and American dream are the foundational problems that have allowed Trumpâs rise. Everything else is a symptom imo.
America tops every ranking of countries by individualism Thatâs why itâs fucked.

you would be foolish however to think they are not vulnerable or under similar influences as US politics.
Which is why Iâve stated several times we are. We just have some structural and cultural traits that make it much harder to gain inroads.
We also have cultural traits that help fascism. Canadians are very trusting, fascism in a polite packaging is not going to face as much skepticism or push back here.

I donât really disagree with any of this, but itâs not like âthe American Dreamâ and the virtue of selfish pursuit of wealth âgreed is goodâ culture got establish and amplified out of some unique trait of the people living in the US. That shit has been cultivated and spread by the same people that want US institutions to be feckless because they benefit from it.

canada is much less diverse as well, itâs not really an apples to apples comparison. You could never get a âthe blacks are eating your petsâ message through to canada not because of culture but simply because there isnât a lot of ethnic/racial friction there compared to the states.
Simp is just a starry-eyed idealist. Itâs good to be practical and all, but the world needs beautiful dreamers too. Stay wild Moon Child!
