Although I’ve been eating steel cut oats for years now, I only realized in the last year that I can just dice up part of an apple and throw it in for the 20 minutes it takes the oatmeal to cook.
Put some cinnamon on it, and you’ve got quite the apple-oatmeal stew.

This has been discussed a lot on a few places I read online. All the surgeons are flabbergasted by how it could have possibly happened. The various explanations have been multifactorial:
- Solo surgeon when the type of case clearly required two
- Laparoscopic approach when it should have been open
- Fat unhealthy patient with likely enlarged liver and spleen
However, even with that, the consensus was that there’s no reasonable explanation for how this could have happened. The anatomy is so incredibly different, specifically the venous return to the liver from the bowel, that it makes no sense.

Gala is fine in a pinch or when they’re 99c/lb, but its a honeycrip light. Cosmic crisp is a much improved honeycrisp. A Macintosh right off the tree before it gets bruised up has merits as well.

They’re not great. But my kids love them. We always buy a few but Mme Melkerson and I never eat them ourselves.
We signed up for this local fruit delivery service that just gives us a box of random fruit every week. Several interesting apple varieties. Ones I’ve never had before are lemonade apples and pink pearl apples. They’re good and the novelty was fun, but give me honeycrisp any day of the week.
Cosmic crisp is good too, but the problem is that it is much easier to get perfect honeycrisp apples than cosmic crisp ones, since honeycrisp is more common. If both are perfect then I’ve got them in a dead heat and it really depends on my mood.

In NYS I can say that the best apples are Stamen Winesap. Pretty sure the season for those is now to. A lot of local orchards have been pushed to start growing the Honey Crisps and such but they don’t seem to do too well here.

I’m a first timer at a regatta for my kid and it’s pretty clear that if I want to become part of the sailing community I need to buy a Helly Hansen jacket. It’s apparently a required uniform for all parents.
