How exactly does a homeless person get one of those units?

I happen to know someone who, not too long ago, went from sorta homeless (living in the barn in the backyard of the father-in-law of a guy I work with), to living in some kind of housing of that nature and he got there via getting sick, going to the hospital, having a social worker find him who then helped him get into a place.

It’s actually “knew” and not “know” because he died recently. It’s quite a story. He was in the military for a long time, but wasn’t getting any of his benefits. It turned out that he was owed a ton of money - like nearly a million dollars. He got the money. He got cleaned up (both physically as he looked like someone living in a barn for years and stopped drinking). And shortly thereafter he died. He was about 70 years old.

So, social worker - at least sometimes.

To the extent that there should be any purity testing for Democrats, I think the answer should be drawing lines on economic rather than social issues. The most very basic line one can draw is that Democrats oppose cutting things like Social Security and Medicare when some Republicans would like to go so far as to eliminate them if they could.

I suspect that for many homeless people that seems impossible.

I think a significant percentage of homeless people get contacted by social workers and most are sane enough to receive help. The minority of homeless people who are raving maniacs get a disproportionate amount of attention.

Tomorrow I’m going to be doing Food Activism. I’m sure if there will be reports if there is any raving mania.

I didn’t think it was a mania issue. I just didn’t think that there was much effort by the social workers to contact the homeless people. But maybe things aren’t as bad as I thought.

Hes targeted by the roght because they (probably rightfully) see him as next in line and they are trying to Hillary Clinton him as far out as possible.

He’s targeted by the left because he has smarmy politician mannerisms and is a bit involved in legacy politics.

Fwiw, I think the majority of his policies are good and progressive and support him as the next nominee. I would guess a lot of blue Californians feel the same.

After Luigi maybe liberals are going to change their minds about guns?

All of these California homeless projects I have read about seem to be massively inefficient, not unlike that one stall bathroom they built in a park that cost $3m.

27b divided by 21,000 people helped is $1.3m spent per homeless helped which is insane. Maybe some of that infrastructure that can be reused in the future and those numbers will go down but jesus you might as well just buy existing cheap housing in red states and bus those people over there.

What the fuck.

Why did you use the wrong numerator?

Good catch, where did the other $26.3 billion go and how many were helped from that?

It wasn’t a hard catch.

Other programs. Are you seriously asking for a comprehensive list in the California’s housing programs right now? How about you look something up before you spout off about bussing people places?

Who exactly is getting “purity tested?” What does that even mean? All I’ve seen my entire lifetime are the Dems tacking to the right and getting smoked. Progressives in the party like DSA candidates constantly get sidelined by the DNC in favor of centrists, the NYT and WaPo op-ed pages are fully controlled by reactionary clowns. From my perspective, no one gets purity tested more savagely than left-of-center voices. Hell, look at how Claudine Gay got fired at the behest of Chris Rufo, with the mainstream media falling completely in line.

huh? there have been an unlimited number of articles/video in mainstream press about California’s inefficient spending and results.

In the 2021-22 fiscal year, when the homeless population was estimated to be 172,000, California spent $7.2 billion, which equated to nearly $42,000 per homeless individual.

I didn’t make any claims on which side was being purity tested. It clearly goes both directions.

Ok, what should California have spent per homeless individual and how much of that was on cops and jails?

I straight up don’t know who you think is getting purity tested or what “purity testing” means to you.
