2024 LC Thread

Why is British Twitter still talking about grooming gangs? Wasn’t that like 10 - 15 years ago?

A survivalist infiltrated a militia over the last 4 years.

I’m kind of struck about the mundane thing that caused him to bail though. A mentally ill member was leaving dead animals on the doorstep of a local reporter and the survivalist had a private meeting to tell her to stop, she said she didn’t want to, so he wrote an anonymous email to the reporter who then published the email. He knew that the militia could easy piece it together that he was leaking things so he left.

Taking a step back was it worth losing a mole who was in a state leadership position to warn a local reporter? A moral quandary.

Oh this is why

Musk has also promoted virulent anti-immigrant rhetoric from the UK, reposting a British Twitter user’s complaint about a sprawling child sexual abuse scandal in which gangs of men in the north of England and the Midlands sexually exploited children for at least a decade. Sometimes referred to as the Rotherham scandal, the perpetrators were overwhelmingly British-Pakistani men who exploited white girls; Andrew Norfolk, the journalist who uncovered the scandal in 2011, told the BBC recently that the case “was a dream story for the far-right,” adding, “They had no interest in solutions, they were interested in exploiting the situation.”

Ahh, well refs gonna ref then.

Hahah ya it’s nuts too. I didn’t get it and I have his art all over my house.

From our discussion on DNegs being a piece of shit

Exactly what I was wondering LOL.

Family took a very short trip to the bourbon trail area in Kentucky and I, as I always do, turned off the water coming into the house while we were gone. Is this standard or (as my wife seems to believe) am I being paranoid? I definitely hate the crazy sounds of the water coming back into the house when I turn the valve back on, but I’m super concerned about leaking/burst pipes while we’re gone.

Feel like we could use a relationship court thread here.

Do you turn off the heat and open all the windows, too?

Paranoid.

We’ve had several burst or corroded pipe disasters in the building in the 5 years I’ve been here. If your place is old I vote non-paranoid.

My parents do this too.

Probably unnecessary, but what’s the downside?

I appreciate that this is meant to illustrate how ridiculous you think I’m being, but I don’t understand the analogy at all.

If you’re that concerned about the pipes freezing, why not keep just leave the heat on and leave one or more faucets slightly open?

If the issue is exposed pipes, it sound like they need to be wrapped.

this is not something anyone does. no one, only you. but! it’s smart, i like it.

TBH, if you asked me in Feb of 2020 what I thought was going to happen, I’d have pounded the over on 20 million deaths worldwide.

This low number is 100% the triumph of science and frankly the pure luck we had already invented the mRNA vaccine.

Seems slightly paranoid if you have had no reason to suspect problems, but perfectly fine. It’s not like you’re asking someone else to do it.

On the luck side, we were helped by the fact that the virus mutated into something less deadly over time.
