2024 LC Thread: Name That Tune

I recently discovered that the Australian government uses the terms

MESC and NMESC

Main English Speaking Countries
Non Main English Speaking Countries

These are
New Zealand, South Africa, the US, Canada, Ireland and the UK

This just seems so fucking euphemistic.

I can imagine a conversation.

So… MESC… Whats that?

It’s in the name.

So, South Africa… So post British Empire colonies are MESC too? Like Uganda?

No.

Wait. Ah it’s big english speaking countries! India, Pakistan and Nigeria all have over 100 million english speakers.

Also no.

Ah. Must be English as a first language, I think Egypt has over 30 million first language speakers.

Um… Still no.

Educated English Speakers? Singapore?

Stop it.

So why these countries?

You know why.

Excluding Singapore is completely LOL.

Music trivia time!

The Billboard Hot 100 launched in 1958.

Since that time, only 45 songs have remained at Number 1 for 10 weeks or longer.

Go!

I will put correct answers chronologically, not by total weeks.

8 - The Macarena (1996) - 14 weeks
11 - Candle in the Wind 97 (1997) - 14 weeks.
38 - Old town road (2019) - 19 weeks ( longest)

All others are misses

Mariah Carey dominated the Hot 100. Not every song stayed on the list for 10+ weeks tho.

Does it have to be consecutive weeks? If not,

Dreams
Don’t Stop Believin’
Runnin’ Up That Hill

might be on the list due to recent revivals.

Respect
Good Vibrations
Help
Stayin’ Alive
Rocket Man
Bye Bye Bye
I Want It That Way
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Start Me Up
Satisfaction
Jumpin Jack Flash
Rock and Roll All Night

.

Surprisingly, no
