Ordering a bottle of water in Bangkok is standard. That it would cost more than my entire entree was unexpected.
Depends where, I guess. There is a lot of great street food where I wouldnāt be surprised by that at all.

Wow! 50% is ridiculous. I never would have imagined it was that low anywhere.
Itās just the first place I looked up. I just looked up:
Nevada pays out 60%
Iowa pays out 63%
Mass pays out 73%
According to NPR the average is about 60%.
According to South Dakotaās lotto page, 95% of the money goes back to SD. They pay out 5%!

Damn. I donāt know why I assumed it was more.
Yeah. I donāt know what other states did, but when they rolled out the lotto in CA they made a big point about how much of the money would go to fund schools.

The Nevada one is particularly hilarious. Iām pretty sure Nevada has rules on how much casinos need to pay out on slots and other games, and Iām also sure that number is a lot higher than 60%. But thatās apparently fine when the state runs things.
However, gaming regulations require a minimum payback of 87% on any one machine and all machines within a casino must have an average payback of 90% to 95% .
I thought Nevada didnāt allow scratchers.
