I think Covid is a big example, but Iggy would also probably argue that teachers unions have created systems that value seniority over performance and limit ability to discipline bad teachers and pay more to really good ones. Maybe also throw some stuff in about the licensing/training process for people who have domain expertise but not teaching experience and possibly some charter school stuff as well.

Everything on the Yglesias list seems obviously sensible to me? Itâs wild how extreme people have gotten that theyâre vociferously arguing with him about it.
I just think it totally misses the point on whatâs needed for a democratic comeback.

If you think that Yggyâs point there is that trans, intersex, and nonbinary people are so because of innate and immutable biological factors and thus should be respected for who they are as such, well, OK, but that would seem to be considerably more extreme than the generic Dem position on the subject. I read him as wanting the generic Dem position to be more conformist to the binary so as to win elections, not less so.
When in doubt trans people get to play in the harder sports league. Problem solved.
