2024 Election POST MORTEM

Dems did have a bit of a handicap here with a candidate withdrawing and being replaced very late.

Gore tried talking about SS, he lost. There’s no way to fix SS that doesn’t involve raising taxes, which is an instant loser in American politics.

I would argue that gore lost with an asterisk

I would also point to the example of CA governor jerry brown. He inherited ahhnuld’s disaster of a deficit and tax shortfall. much needed
public services were doing poorly but were bloated and needed cutting. He needed to simultaneously raise taxes and cut spending and he put the state on track to a historic surplus, with a future looking plan that considered the devastating effects of climate change and drought. Californians arent special, theyre just as deplorable as the rest of the country.

It’s not clear this was a handicap. Trump will tell you he spent a year attacking Biden and all of that effort went to waste when the candidate changed.

There is an awful lot of analysis that leaves this out anyway. It certainly could have been a significant factor.

I don’t know whether this is true or not. But if it is:

I’m going to put an end to the reason we lost is that there is no disunity on the right nonsense once and for all. Two prominent literal Nazis, Richard Spencer and Nick Fuentes, endorsed Kamala fucking Harris, a mixed race women!

We also had prominent R establishment war criminals endorsing us!

wtf I had to google to confirm this. How was this a thing?!

This could just as easily been subterfuge.

Sure, and that’s the fault of Biden and his advisers, but people caught up with that being such a clownshow was possibly a big factor. We all already went through that phase and moved on, but how many people who aren’t on politics forums were in the middle of it when the election happened?

Spencer, one of 14 organizers ordered to pay millions in a civil trial after organizing the deadly 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, told his 93,500 followers on X, formerly Twitter, “I want you all to know that I am voting for Kamala Harris and I hope you will too.”

Spencer announced his endorsement of Harris in an almost 12-minute video posted to X, saying, “This is not some kind of troll or joke; this is a sincere vote.”

In the video, he discussed what voting for a candidate means to him, saying you have to consider “who best offers stability, safety, continuation, and most likely to be the best manager of the American empire.”

He continued: “When I put it that way, the choice is very clear. I think Donald Trump and the MAGA [Make America Great Again] movement bring nothing but stupidity and chaos.”

Again, he also endorsed biden 2020

But the idea that anyone on the right listens to him is laughable

He has been a joke to them for over 5 years, and the only attention he gets is from libs going “wow look at this endorsement”

Damn you for making me agree even a little with a white supremacist today :crazy_face::flushed:

You are taking heat for posting an obviously fake story, but even ignoring that - what is the purpose here? These make believe workers are supposedly getting screwed over by the bosses and we are supposed to feel good about that because they won’t be able to buy Tiny Tim a Christmas present? How is this better then any of the reactionary shitposting? Good luck in the next election.

Richard Spencer being a guest on a fake show

When metaname gets serious to yell at you, you know you fucked up.

It’s genuinely appalling

Ike’s supposedly voted for Harris too.

I don’t see any ideological takeaways from this election, seems to be 99% fundamentals to me and all the “this is how the election proves my ideology is correct” takes are just that.

It’s 99% is the country/world going in right or wrong direction + candidate quality. Only surprise is that as much as we hate what he is selling, Donald Trump is clearly at least an average candidate for winning a general election and probably better than that. And clearly Biden was a dog shit candidate of historic proportions that put Kamala in a terrible position.

Kamala herself was average, awesome at a stump speech or a debate but pretty bad at speaking extemporaneously in a way that made people feel like she had a plan to “turn the country around.” Probably because her belief is that the country is doing awesome and doesn’t need to be turned around. I don’t know what it is about Trump that makes him feel like the world is going to hell whenever he is not in power and only he can fix it but he comes across as sincerely believing that.
