They probably do, but I imagine that they are probably weighing the benefit to their child of doing that vs the publicity and stress of testifying and such. It’s not to hard to believe that they decide to do nothing is the best course of action. Plenty of adult women who are sexually assaulted come to a similar conclusion for a lot of the same reasons.

Interesting. I don’t know whether the premise is accurate, but I can’t say it isn’t either. The truth is, I had the run of the neighborhood even as a ten year old. And we didn’t want our parents around. I grew up in Detroit and was in walking distance to the movies, a golf course, a bowling alley, the candy store. In the summer I’d usually play sandlot baseball, but it didn’t matter. I could go anywhere and as long as I was home by dark, even if I missed dinner, everything was cool. I much preferred that to any structured activities and I think it did promote a sense of independence and responsibility even as a little kid.
