Vid has 25k views. Doesn’t seem that “professional”. I haven’t paid much attention to YouTubers but went down a rabbit hole over the break. There’s a pretty good channel that covers a lot of youtube drama and trainwrecks https://www.youtube.com/c/SunnyV2.
One of those vids got me to watch some Mr. Beast who is the 5th most popular channel (87M subs), behind bollywood music, indian movie info, and content for toddlers. https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBeast6000 Mr. Beast was pretty interesting. His biggest schtick is giving people, often distressed, nonphotogenic people, money and other things, often in over the top ways, which he seems to genuinely enjoy. It’s useful to know what grabs 87M subs, mainly younger, if one is to have some sense of society.
No doubt there are many terrible YouTubers, but there’s also a lot of good content. I’ve been looking for history content lately and have found better stuff on youtube than on any streaming services for things like paleolithic humans or the history of the Byzantine Empire.

My son was (is?) into Mr. Beast for a while so I watched some. I got a much more negative vibe - many of the videos I saw were his friends doing stupid stunts/challenges for money. It had a “dance for your supper” vibe imo, but I’m pretty grouchy.
I haven’t watched much Mr Beast, but I did see one episode where he was making large donations to random Twitch streamers. One of them was a cute girl and he was saying something like “you should be happy to get this money. i am not objectifying you.” kinda creepy.

Also I can’t stand ssniperwolf who’s only content is watching other videos from YouTube and TikTok and commenting on them
Too bad. Now she’s also a bestselling author, so hopefully she can get by without the YouTube dough.

I noticed that some of the older stuff seemed to have that kind of vibe but I think he’s mostly dropped it, except when he’s dealing with his “crew”, not randoms. I hate that sort of thing, but it’s not bad when he’s trolling friends who have regular opportunities. What I found interesting is that is content is about the most successful English language stuff on youtube.
Shout out to the Stanford professor who was like “yeah that’s a total fraud, her product is not possible.” LOL horny old white guys.

Well, at least something bad happened to Kissinger?
My three year old daughter ends the bedtime routine (which includes me or mom reading actual physical books to her) by picking “stories” or “music.” Depending on her answer we’ll play a premade playlist of short Disney stories or songs she likes. It helps her relax.
Cut to tonight. We’ve been playing a “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” playlist because she fell in love with the song this Christmas season.
Well, apparently Spotify will jump to a similarly themed playlist after one ends. Because I went to open a text and a certain word caught my eye.
My daughter got quite the education tonight.
