This highlights one of the challenges I have with charitable giving to large organizations vs. just finding good people and giving them cash money. You probably only get systemic benefits with the former but the latter is so much more efficient.
Riverkeeper organizations in particular are almost universally counterproductive. There are many in Florida that I come into contact with, and the people in charge are always some well-intentioned over zealous person that isn’t that smart or well informed. But they are loud and almost always spread messages that just muddy issues making them more difficult to sort through.
I don’t think this is the first time you’ve posted something from Americana at Brand Memes, and it’s fascinating to me, as I live in Glendale, CA, home of the Americana at Brand.
This is problem with so much environmental activism. Good meaning, but often woefully misinformed people, ending up actually doing harm to the environment by pushing the wrong things.
There is this bad idea among a lot of environmental activism that simply being “for the Environmenent” is enough and there is no need to understand the complexity of the issue. It forces so many things into juvenile black and white arguments.
Found this chestnut in Michel Houellebecq’s novel Submission, but I didn’t want to crap up any of the Ukraine threads:
“…but that phrase the balance of power always sounds impressive in conversation, as if you’d been reading Clausewitz and Sun Tzu.”
I told [suzzer] in July that the plan was to deliver the files on 11/12. I confirmed the delivery date again when I sent him test files on 10/15. So, fortunately we aren’t behind schedule.
If I recall correctly, there was also a misunderstanding about the delivery date for report files last year that prompted [Big Boss] to email [Bigger Boss] for an update. Considering that this misunderstanding has happened twice, I think we might need to rethink our communication approach for this project. The communication between [suzzer] and I has worked very well but clearly the communication approach is not working for your team.
Do I need to send you or someone else updates in addition to the updates I’m sending [suzzer] in order to make sure that no one is under the impression that I’ve missed a delivery date that hasn’t been missed?
Best,
Trudee

No, you’re really not. If you’re not rabidly pro-nuclear at this point, it just means that you are uninformed/misinformed. If we could give 1% of what we give in fossil fuel subsidies to modern nuclear research, we’d probably have our energy/environmental problems solved by the Thursday after next. There’s not much that makes me sadder than the mass ignorance surrounding peoples’ opinions on nuclear power.
The rare occasions where I fuck up and think I’m gonna get fired for it are relieved when I see emails like that and realize that they’re executives with six figure salaries who have fucked up way worse than me and are still employed.
