Where I live we get regular white out warnings in the winter because there is often a mix of snow plus strong winds that whip up the snow into squalls, the conditions are similar to this where you can’t see far enough ahead of you to stop in time.
I remember hitting those in PA. Fucking terrifying.
Driving is such a nightmare. Going car-free was probably the best thing for me. Sucks that you basically have to not live in America or be rich to do it.
Jesus fucking christ I was screaming at those people to get the fuck out of their cars and into the woods. Like how do you not realize you’re in imminent mortal danger from more cars doing exactly what you just did?
And then the person does the absolute worst possible thing - get out of the car and just casually stand next to it. We have completely lost situational awareness as a species. Our lives are so padded now we just can’t imagine that anything could kill us.
And the person who almost killed a bunch of people - just cruising along at 60 mph in that.

Not much you can do there to warn incoming traffic - except get run over when someone sees you and locks up their brakes. You don’t want to be anywhere near the road until more wrecked cars create a plug. He did put the phone down and try to go help at that point.
Crazy how throughout the entire video you can hear more and more cars slamming into the back of the jam. Some people getting crushed and dying in there most likely.

hoy shit. I was wondering where on 81 that was, since my in-laws live in central PA near that interstate. It’s way north of them, though.
The sound of more and more vehicles hitting the pileup is just insane.
This is my greatest fear driving in winter.
There were driving conditions like this literally 20 times where I live this past winter. It is incredibly irresponsible how these people were driving and they should be at risk of losing their licenses imo.
In white out conditions you probably should be pulling over, the only issue is then other people aren’t and you’re a sitting duck if it is a high traffic time like this apparently was.
