Let’s seriously brainstorm. Is there really some NFL exec who stands up in some meeting in June and says, “I really think we need to slow down the game more. Also, we need to really halt any kind of emotion after a play is concluded. Is there something we can do to tackle both of these?”

Owners don’t want their fans to be fans of players, only of teams. The more personality players can show, the more likely it is that fans become fans of players instead of teams.
