I’m sure - but like 90% of white people Reagan’s age were similar racists, They said and believed a lot of stuff that is terrible and sounds beyond terrible now. But it doesn’t mean they had no empathy. Trump has no empathy. He’s a dangerous sociopath. Reagan wasn’t a sociopath.
In addition, to empathy - competence matters. Reagan might have been some terrible person but he had basic competence. Trump has none and that opens up all kinds of disaster scenarios.
I have this theory that we’re always going to have D <-> R swongs. I’m not going to spend my energy hating all the R swongs - just the worst ones.

Reagan wasn’t a sociopath the way Trump is.
He did more damage to the world than Trump, but he may well have thought he was doing the right thing when he helped along the wars that killed a few hundred thousand people in Central America and led history down the path where Trump separated children from the refugees from the aftermath.
