World Cup 2022: Congrats to Argentina and the GOAT (WATCH THIS GAME, BEST GAME EVER)

Progressing from also rans to decent outfit was the easier part - look at Morocco, Croatia etc.

Getting from there to worthy WC winners is a huge step.

England prefers to play (and lose to) its former colonies at cricket.

Oh sure, Iā€™m not saying it was a good bet or anything. It was wildly speculative bet that the US, by sheer will and access to resources, to force themselves into the top tiers of global football.

I donā€™t know, maybe, but thatā€™s the sort of dynamic Iā€™m looking for. Did Wales/Ireland/Scotland/Australia/Egypt/Sudan/Kenya/Uganda/Zambia/US/Canada/Somalia/Ghana/Niger/Zimbabwe/Bahamas/Bermuda/Brunei/India/Cameroon/Sri Lanka/Cyprus/Jamica/Iraq/Pakistan/Qatar/Singapore/South Africa/Uganda/New Zealand ever beat England in the World Cup?

Yeah, France just won the WC last go around, England is due for one

Oh Iā€™m just rooting for France to make Moroccoā€™s eventual advancement to the final that much sweeter.

This is a world cup too soon for England imo. The best players are Foden, Saka and Bellingham who are all at least four years away from their best.

While that is true, the bracket has really opened up and if you win this game youā€™re massive favorites next round and 50/50 vs Argentina.

The game basically revolves around how well those 3 play imo.

I donā€™t really want Eng to be ascribed to me. I donā€™t even want to think about how horrible living here would be if they won.

Otherwise true but France have Mbappe against an ageing Walker who might be caught out of position if he supports Saka and if he doesnā€™t England lose something of their most potent goal threat.

Both goalies are suspect.

France opened at 2.30, now up to 2.60.

Nah. England have steamed (as always) from 3.45 to less than 3, pushing Franceā€™s price out.
Tempted to lay England at that.

Now co-faves at 2.9 LOL

They got a real chance because they are in the semi-finals, but they have not actually been impressive imo, more super fortunate. Especially in the group stages. Theyā€™re not a particularly strong squad.

Small punts on eng/btts and eng u4.5

A few hedges with France/under

The only thing to cheer for is for this game to go to PKs and have England lose, because the English would be super pissed.

Yes, very true. Iā€™m old enough to remember Euro 2004 though. A defensive side can win every couple of decades. They are long shots of course, Iā€™m just saying that a mediocre team with a solid D has what we used to call a ā€œpuncherā€™s chanceā€.

Defensive Greece won the Euros.

But Morocco hasnā€™t been that great defensively. Theyā€™re giving up plenty of good shots, they just havenā€™t found the back of the net. This is far more of a ā€˜lots of things can happen in a sample size of 5 gamesā€™ more than anything else.

When I donā€™t have a dog in the fight I generally root for whatever outcome will cause the most butthurt, and that does appear to be it.
