hard core rightwing pages masquerading as military pages that I track have been good sources of finding local footage of ICE abuses, they’re reposting it as some kind of fetish porn because they love it. through one of those I found a really weird video of a police helicopter circling a LA neighborhood in the middle of the night taunting residents below through the loudspeaker. one of the more bizarre things ive ever seen. it’s like a terror attack almost. fucked up shit.

The cop shooting that Australian reporter in the back with a rubber bullet seems about as unambiguous a case of excessive force as you’re going to find.

Trump’s base is never gonna turn on him. Remove those supporters from the poll and a large majority disapprove.
30-some percent of the general population + overwhelming support from the police is a pretty dangerous combo.

The Marines # in particular is a proxy of the people in support of Trump doing the darkest shit we fear, I.e. slaughtering protestors, making meaningful opposition practically illegal, etc. And it’s plenty high enough for Trump to successfully do that stuff, if he wants to.
That’s how every totalitarian regimes take hold. Strong, rabid minority of support of 25-35% + support of police/army rank and file + 15-25% stupid motherfuckers who don’t want totalitarianism but are dumb enough to vote them into power.

I think those “metro” cops are the cops for buses and the light rail and work for the county, so, not LAPD… Just wondering if Karen Bass really is keeping LAPD out of it.
Trump is sensitive to movements in poll numbers. Tuesday and Wednesday are the big poll publishing days. FWIW, Morris is the least favorable to Trump of the poll aggregators I’ve seen. Silver is in the middle. RCP most. But they all show similar trends. So the next few days should be interesting as far as the numbers go.
Luckily the army rank and file isn’t all that Trumpy. I can’t find anything ATM, but I’ve seen pretty even split among active duty personnel. Veterans love Trump though.

30-something percent means it’s not some small minority. That’s easily enough people to support an insurgency if Republicans find themselves out of power.
What percentage of Republicans have phrased this as a battle they must win no matter the cost or price?

It could be worse for sure, but very clearly illegally seizing control of the national guard and then sending active duty military to put down protests should poll at about 2% and I think it would have been monumentally unpopular before the fascist road the USA turned down after 2001.

Kind of like the post-ww2 shame-induced anti-fascism in Germany, I think the USA had a little shame-induced self-reflection after the civil rights and Vietnam struggles. I think that was the historical blip. This is getting back to normal.
