Who’s up for a Walrus Quickie? We’ll let the other thread be the fine wine you sip at and enjoy over the course of a long meal. This one is more like the 2am snack you eat in three bites after a night out (or a night of shit posting; let’s be real).
The idea is to have ten participants, five categories, and to have all reveals take place within a week of final submissions. If you haven’t played before, feel free to join in! Send me a youtube or Spotifiy link to a song for each category. Gather them all together in one PM. I will then “rank” them according to my own arbitrary tastes and assign 10 points for first place, 9 points for second, and so on. The ranking is meant to be fun and an opportunity for some good-natured abuse of my poor taste, but the main idea is for everyone to hear some new music and discuss one another’s picks.
Here are the categories: #1. A song released in 2019 or 2020. #2. A song for a long walk (doesn’t have to be a long song). #3. A song to listen to at the gym (or to pump you up for a similar occasion). #4. A sad song. #5. A song you liked in high school, and still do now.
I grew up listening to mostly punk, metal, and rap. I now listen to almost anything that isn’t excessively manufactured or derivative. Autotune is the only thing about modern music I actively hate. Other than that, go wild! I love nearly every genre of music.
Deadline for sign up and submissions is by the end of the day Sunday.
Maybe in a day or two @seities should start an interest thread so we can have rolling reveals and allow for those not checking in this three hour window to participate.
I was going to say I would be happy to run one for all those that don’t make it into this 10 (there would probably be close to 10 more). I might post something now using the same timeframe as you so I can do some prep on the weekend.
I do think if they’re going to be limited then having multiple open is fine. Not sure if there are enough people to do the judging to have more than one long-form one at a time in addition to the smaller ones, though.
