Walrus IV reveal Thread. Kingvaldo Collab.

I think Rivaldo might be more upset by that placement than me. You’re apt to make him leave again putting Living Colour so low.

We’re like the Gene and Roger of Walrus. We have our way.

Coming in at number 14 with 4 points is @Habsfan09 with Billy Joel and River of Dreams

This is an example of where familiarity with an artist hurt in the rankings. This is a lovely tune from a brilliant musician and songwriter, and someone whom I have also seen perform live too. He practically lives at MSG. But compared to both his entire catalogue and the other songs on this list, it’s not something I would reach to listen for again. I go walkin in my sleep instead.

Up next at number 13, good for 5 points is @skydiver8 with LCD Soundsystem - Daft Punk is Playing at My House

Someone described this as new-age funk. Upon doing some research, they’re a Brooklyn band from the early 2000’s that’s still rocking. When hipsters go electric this is what it sounds like. Not that it’s a bad thing. It just sounds like a million other things you may have heard before ala

I have listened to the last 3 places and it wasn’t that bad. If this is the bottom of the barrel this might be a really strong category.

Coming in at number 12 for 6 points is @Pauwl with Sonic Youth - Purr

To my uneducated ears, this is a better example of the genre in the previous submission. The guitar riff at the start is grabby and the turn in tempo around 250 is fun. I learned it all from you girl.

I was going to make this point later, but I think I got some of the best category submissions ever in this game. My 3 categories overall were excellent playlists.

Here we have #11 for 7 points is @seities with Mike Doughty - Down on the River by the Sugar Plant

And this would be a the solo artist version of the previous 2 submissions. It’s a chill and pleasing tune that I would enjoy having on the background while doing the dishes or folding laundry. down by the sugar plant.

Having laptop issues. Top 10 incoming shortly

lets try this again.

Starting our top 10 for 8 points is @microbet with Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey

An excellent start to the top 10 with a New York institution. Had the chance to see them at Roseland Ballroom back in the day and a mosh pit at a hip hop show was quite the site. Only reason it’s not higher on the list is the familiarity rule. And I wouldn’t want to play it again over anything above.

Up next at number 9 and 9 points is @6ix with Talking Heads - Born Under Punches

Another NY institution (this word is going to be used a lot), giving us genre-bending melodies and vocals, and a generation-defining sound for many who grew up during the time they were at their most creative. This song is a great example of their work.

Coming in at #8 for 10 points is @Jalfrezi with New York Dolls - Trash

Here is our third institution in a row. And a confession that punk is my thing and it was very hard not to put this higher based on punk being the best kind of music ever. This was recorded back in the early 70’s and still holds up bc regardless of personal tastes this is a great song and as some brilliant critic once penned, a “glorious rush of a spunky speedy mess…”

Happy to be bottom of the barrel with @pyatnitski.

Lucky #7 for 11 points is @LouisCyphre with Rob Zombie - Dragula

Rob isn’t quite an institution. But this is an incredible rock song. Similar to some other artists on this list, Mr. Zombie’s music defies description. His work on wiki is listed as hard rock, heavy metal, industrial metal, shock rock and nu metal. In any case, this song is loud and fast in the best of ways.

I saw White Zombie twice in concert and can’t really remember any songs other than the following and 5 minutes from now I won’t remember Dragula.

Sweet #6 for 12 points is @ChrisV with Apollo Brown and OC - Anotha One

This entry is the first Hip Hop entry on the list (consider the Beastie Boys punk come at me bro), and another confession that this is not a genre a music I am typically a fan of. But a great melody with string samples and quality verses from OC make this a top 10’er.
