Walrus Grab Bag 2 - The Walrus Strikes Back

So I nearly had my wife divorce me because I was “listening to bloody jazz” for nothing…

Cool cool. I haven’t played any games other than on mobile for the last 10 years or so, so I will definitely have to google but let’s try and make this one work!

Well…did you like the drumming in any of it?

I’'m going to have to listen to it all again to check

I’ll admit, a lot of my thoughts on the drumming entry come to me solely from playing hours upon hours of Rock Band on Xbox 360 back in the day

I mean, I like the classics as well.

Wait.

You’ll still allow symphony versions as well, right?

nice work, you two. this helps

Absolutely. It’s just not required

Ah. Speaking of rock band, that’s a good clarification for my category. Let’s not just have a song appear on a music game soundtrack. That just opens this up to basically any song.

dammit, I was totally gonna submit this! just kidding

(for those who don’t know, Rock Band put this band on the map, basically because of songs like this :stuck_out_tongue:

oof, so much good video game music isn’t on youtube at all. Might have to compromise a bit for those who can’t use spotify…hmmm

We’ll know when we’ve truly eradicated hate speech, when us jazz fans can finally live our lives insult free. Here’s dreaming!

Also, I’d be happy to hear / pointlessly score aborted entries if anyone cares to PM me. Maybe Swanky’s wife can give her thoughts too.

looking around youtube for your category led me to the perfect submission…the artist I had planned, just nothing I’d heard from him before. You probably have and I’ll still get last, but whatever.

Category host name: Louis Cyphre

Category: Delusions of Grandeur. Songs that feature an orchestra, are symphonic in scale (not length), are bombastic or just have a big, elaborate production in the broadest sense.
I do not mean regular songs that are played (“covered”) by or with an orchestra and having an orchestra is not necessary at all. The most important criteria is still if I like the song.

Musical tastes: I mainly listen to rock and metal (from vanilla to extreme) and their siblings, cousins and bastards. I also listen to pop, hip-hop, some classic, a tiny bit of opera and I can generally find something I like in most genres.
Basically no-hoper genres: hardcore techno/gabber, Operetta
Dubious genres: Electronic (although some electronic music did well in the previous categories I judged) , Jazz, country/western, disco, RNB

I listen to a lot of stuff, so just about everything else is in with a shot.

Any other judging notes:
There are two rules that if broken will lead to a low score.

  1. The song should not annoy me.
  2. The song should not bore me.

I previously judged a Walrus and you can find the reveal thread here:

Warning: This time I will judge very well-known songs much more harshly.

That was the last category afaik.

I think I can find a Madge song for every category

If it wasn’t obvious, please identify the source of the song for my category (specific movie or TV show in addition to artist and song name). Not because I will be checking for unscrupulous entries (I expect pauwl will be doing that, thanks in advance) but because it will make it easier for those following at home to follow up on stuff they like or who may be curious about the context.

Do what now?

wat’s Yuv’s category again? Think I’m gonna drop this load in his category irregardless

At least everyone else are guaranteed 2 points
