Just had a listen and there’s some really great stuff here, I think I enjoyed this one more than any other category. I was a fan of Budgie, but then 70s prog-ish hard rock is a real weakness of mine, slightly surprised I’ve never got round to them before. I thought Sweet Thang was great, definitely soundtrack-y but no problem with that. Sierra Ferrell completely lived up to the hype, a ridiculously good voice. Then stuff I already knew and enjoy like Neutral Milk Hotel, The Carter Family and 99 Red Balloons. But, the thing that blew me away was the Shostakovich, incredible stuff. Oh, and just now was the first time I’ve listened to my own song on headphones, and it was even better like that. Well played me! (And everyone else.)
Might try a different time for the next reveal to get a few more here. Any suggestions anyone?
Just now got to this, and it’s a great reveal. Unfortunately for me I was pulled away so I missed it in real time.
I also agree that this is not a great category; I feel like it encourages dishonesty or … I don’t know… shallowness? And yet, just clicking through a little bit at what’s here and I’m already finding good stuff… so maybe the ends justify the means.
Again, good shit and thanks @Jalfrezi
Yeah as I intimated in the OP I think it’s unlikely people have a very small number of tracks, like only one or two, they like in a particular genre because they usually go on to find others in that genre, and I think this leads to some people having to send tracks they’re not so keen on.
The good news is the next couple of categories that I’ve listened to are real belters.
Great reveal, thanks @Jalfrezi! The best time of day for me depends on the day. Weekdays are different than weekends. I’ll try hard to be around no matter what.
p.s. Here’s some more Ferrell fire for anyone interested.
I discovered Sierra Ferrell a few months ago randomly on youtube. It amazed me that anybody else had heard of her. I like how she pronounces her S’s like it’s a slight sh sound. That’s how you can sound old timey.
Right on. My theory is that anyone who searches Dinosaur Jr on youtube will end up at Sierra Ferrelll via algorythm magic 7 or 8 years later
If you delete all your cookies and search for any music at all you get The Dead South in your recommendations after just a couple clicks. Happens every single time no matter what you’re searching for or listening to.
Btw if anyone could make some kind of spotify mega-playlist of all the walrus songs over all walruses I would be soooooo grateful and glad to kick in a few $$ for the trouble.
What I really want is a ton of MP3s like I got in the late 2000s off of emule. Took me about 80 hours of shotgun downloading any band that anyone said was good (2p2 music threads were a major source) but I found a ton of new music.
Where I plan on going I won’t have internet access in my car most of the time. But I figure at least if I have a spotify playlist I can go from there.
lol, didn’t matter.
but yeah, i usually HATE that genre.
Oh well, at least I didn’t get last place alone.
It’s coming for future walren. (Dutch plural, not Latin (walri). ‘Walrus’ comes from Dutch.)
+1

Never heard of them. I guess my recommendations are all messed up. Time for a clean sweep.
I’m trying to keep my listening a couple of rounds ahead of the reveals so if something gets in the way I can still look really slick as if nothing’s happened.
I’m thinking of a Female Vocalist reveal starting after dinner here at around 9 or 10pm GMT (1 or 2pm PST, 4 or 5pm EST).
- Yes
- No
- Bastard, you didn’t like my track

I was going to do this the other day but I don’t think there’s a way to share Spotify lists anonymously. Also beatlejuice said his Spotify was hacked after sharing a list here
Is this the plan? Other parts of this website are crushing my soul.
Seeing as how you put it like that, yes.
