I think there are a decent amount of parallels today to the beginning of WW1.
The wealth disparity. The working conditions of the poorest were insane at a time when many countries in Europe were peaking. The will of the Industrialists to crush the growing discontent of the proletariat definitely was an enabling factor in the war.
