US Kills Soleimani in Airstrike

I thought we sent all our troops in Syria home to Iraq.

I have already decided the America First/ Bring the Troops home like he promised will be the eventual spin. And it will play well enough because the media will allow it to play.

Is all the talk about WW3 like getting people to the point that when it’s just 3 months of endless bombing followed by a 150000 troop invasion and then 20 years of insurgency fighting we are all like “eh, whatever”?

I don’t get the WW3 talk at all, no major country is going to step in to defend Iran. People just being dumb again.

Iran is probably pretty far from being able to send an ICBM to hit a US city, but even without further escalation, the US tearing up the Iran deal and now this is a big threat to Riyadh and Tel Aviv and Israel reminding Iran right now, not accidentally, that they can nuke Tehran.

WWI didn’t really start because of an assassination, but because Germany was growing to the point where the rest of Europe felt it was kill or be killed and Germany also put itself in that same position. That’s a powder keg and having terrible relations and what could be minor incidents sets it off. If SA and Israel are sufficiently threatened every American administration (maybe even Bernie) will destroy Iran’s military (regardless of all this absurd fawning over the Iranian Army and its elite Republican Guard (oh, that was last time) that’s what would happen). Europe may mostly stay out of it, though the UK probably compelled more or less. SA definitely involved. If Israel can’t stay out of it, then I’d guess Egypt is the next country to fall to pieces after Iran.

Is John Bolton a civilian now? If so that sucks.

I like that they use the trump numbering system ($1 per Iranian) to come up with the reward.

From what I’ve seen people aren’t saying Irans military is super elite, it’s just that geography wise Iran is closer to a Vietnam for America than it is an Iraq.

Iran also has a much more established ability to project power in the region than Iraq ever had.

Obviously US crushes them in a conventional war, but they could cause significant pain outside the borders of Iran.

It depends what we mean by ‘crushing’ them, too. I’m sure the US could destroy the Iranian military fairly handily. Is that victory? Do they then occupy Iran? What’s that going to be like? An ongoing policy of “The dronings will continue until pro-American sentiment improves”?

Another thing that conflict in Iran could bring on is insurgency in Saudi Arabia.

Well I think we’ve learned that crushing a country conventionally and winning a war are two totally different things. Well at least sane people have learned that.

Fortunately, Trump doesn’t need exit strategies so we’re good.

It’s simple neoconservative logic. You see, we blow up a few of their leaders (and maybe a few civilians, who knows?) and then right after that all the remaining not dead brown people will have a parade for American capitalism. It works every time. Well, maybe not every time. But next time for sure!
