“Meme culture” is all about WWIII and avoiding the draft, neither of which have any chance of happening imo. And after all the kids freak out for a month and neither of those things happen, it contributes to the idea that everything is OK after all and there was no reason for all the hysteria.

Also, Pres Hillary stays in the Iran deal, so a lot of stuff plays out differently. US - Iran relations are probably better, and our relationships with European allies are definitely better. Also, her NSC advisors are more like Ben Rhodes than John Bolton.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be false but it perfectly fits with how I was imagining this would’ve went down. Someone floats the idea, Trump latches on to “kill the bad guy and and the press will praise me” with his level 0 thinking, his hawkish advisors push for it, and now it’s happening with no thought about possible consequences or follow up. Their explanations reek of easily seen through bullshit. It’s possible that Trump genuinely believes that this would deescalate tensions in the region but he’s an idiot so it doesn’t really matter what he thinks.

IMO WWIII isn’t likely to occur from this, but it does have a chance of happening as a result of the strike on Soleimani. Doesn’t have to be in the next month either. Could take several months.

There are a ton of ways it could happen but here’s a pretty simple one for you. Iran decides that if the US is being this aggressive, it’s time to enrich some uranium and make some nukes. Reasonable strategy for them. Best way to prevent US aggression is to have nukes. So they start that process. What’s Israel do when they’re a month away from having nukes? From here, anyone can figure out the WW3/Armageddon scenarios.

I’m sure the popular view on June 29, 1914 was “This could not trigger a world war, what are you smoking?”

One of the dumber takes on this issue. We had a mutually beneficial treaty in place with Iran after the Obama administration. There is 0 reason to think that treaty would not be in place if Clinton won. It would still probably be in place if Rubio or Cruz were president.
