Unstuck NFL Fantasy League ****-talking Thread

Since Suz is out, you have your opening.

Is it just me or are quite a few players being overdrafted. Like way overdrafted.

I mean it’s just a first glance at an ADP list. So I haven’t looked deep into it but D’Andre Swift and Deebo Samuel being drafted in the top 20 seem like massive reaches.

Deebo finished WR3 overall in the PPR league I just looked at last year. Swift is probably somewhere around RB10, and you’ll probably see >10 RBs to in the top 20 picks most years in most leagues, so I don’t think it’s super crazy.

Might think Deebo is going to regress without Jimmy G (?) or that Swift is going to get hurt like always and the Lions suck, but I’d quibble with “massive reach”.

Could’ve sworn Deebo was injured for a chunk of last season. I definitely remember overdrafting a 49ers WR.

EDIT: I’m thinking of 2020. Silly me. Though I did remember being super down on Samuel going into the 2021 draft.

As for Swift, he’s been in the low-end RB2 category the last two seasons and has suffered from injuries in each of them. That’s not what I’m aiming for in picking a RB1. I want an early-down workhorse who doesn’t have any competition for carries. While the latter is true for Swift as of now, the former clearly isn’t.

I always wonder how other owners go about drafting. I guess one way is to find an ADP list and go with it. I mean basically everybody’s solid in FF full season leagues because of how easily available resources are.

I put players into tiers where I consider all players in that tier to be equivalent in value. Last season, the difference between WR21 and WR25 was just a few points. So it’s kinda ridiculous to agonize over their exact order. Easier to lump them in a group and go, “They’re all the same to me.”

Gets the planning done quickly.

This is what I try to do, but I still spend way too much time sorting within tiers. I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help myself.

I often use last year’s fantasy performance as a guide for where the tiers are.

For example, Jonathan Taylor massively outscored last year’s RB2 relative to how RB2 outscored the other backs. To me, that puts Taylor in his own tier.

I then adjust them according to the situation that a player faces this season.

I use last 3 years, but otherwise I do the same approach. Still I get bogged down in the details too much.

I spent 20 min yesterday ranking my RB 14-20 (which I have as tier 3).

I still have JT in tier 1 with a bunch of others. As consensus #1 overall pick it doesn’t really matter if he is in his own tier or not. I guess for auction I would give him a bit more of a bump (effectively putting him in his own tier).

Yeah I will basically look at default rankings to understand tiers and then just within +/- a round and a half pick players I like or think are good, or who I think will outperform due to environment changes.

Like I think Nick Chubb is really good at running the ball, I would probably take him over a David Montgomery or Josh Jacobs who might have similar projection due to more expected touches.

Last year I was all over the Ram’s receivers. This year Hurts might have better weapons, or Lamar Jackson’s whole O line and RB room was banged up most of last year, but should be healthier this year, maybe last year’s stats don’t value him enough. Or Mahomes and Rodgers just lost their #1 wr and the replacement are a little sus.

Drive yourself crazy with it! Upon reflection, I’m out

Okay. @JonnyA is interested in participating and can take your place if you remove yourself from the league.

Thing is that suz is commish and I think he’s the only one who can send league invites.

So is this league going to happen or what?

We need either a new commissioner or someone to start a new league?

I’ll be commish.

What’s the plan. New league?

Seem like it has to be.

Yeah. The other league seems dead.

I started a new one. Looking for 10 or 12 teams. I’ll PM the link to those interested.

Looks like we have 6 so far.

  1. Just accepted.

What’s the entry this year?

I’m happy to stick with $50. Figure 50%/30%/20% payout is fine for 12 teams. But if we stick with 10, make it 70%/30%?

The draft time is changeable. I set it for a time I would easily make for now.

@Riverman and @JonnyA have received invites via UP but haven’t accepted yet. Assuming they accept, we have a full league but I’m willing to go to 12 teams if others are interested.
