Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Then they wouldn’t be civilians, they’d be combatants. For the avoidance of doubt, I am talking about unarmed noncombatants. Am I missing the point of your question?

They are ok for now, but I think further escalation will shut down the trip. The expectation was that any shooting would be done in a few days and that seems to not be the case. Add in corporate lawyers….

Our host expected Russian to grab territory and then negotiate to stop hostilities.

Closest points seems like it’s about 400 miles from Odessa. (Razgrad Bulgaria).

I’m thinking if anyone intervenes directly on Ukraine’s behalf (eg no fly zone)- basically anything that threatens a broader war then the trip will be cancelled.

I am choosing to believe this is 100% real.

Lol. She is talking in Russian, not Ukrainian. Must be a comedy skit. Actually a pretty good one, I lolled.

She’s basically going through the steps of starting a manual transmission car, other than there was a bit about “fuses” when she flipped 4 switches.

So Russia isn’t open to anything but complete regime change

This is certainly true, but I can imagine the same reaction out of Cortez’ men, who were also in on it, on having him order the burning of their ships: “Holy shit, this fucker’s gonna kill us all.”

Isn’t the “Nazifcation of the Ukrainian state” a completely made up thing? This is like Republicans demanding that Hillary stop abusing children at Comet pizza.

It’s code for regime change. He basically wants a puppet government. Anything else is Nazis

I think the main thing to remember when
operating Russian vehicles in Ukraine is drive friendly.

i believe hillary complied with their requests going forward

the reverse also might be Ukraine’s position at this point

That means returning Ukraine to pre-Maidan Revolution relationship with Russia where corruption and fealty to Putin were priority.

Well accepting Putin’s framing of it as “denazification” is insane. Reporting this is some “Republicans say …” nonsense if it’s not combined with a statement that there are no actual Nazis in the Ukrainian government to denazify.

It’s not completely made up. There are, in fact, neo-Nazis in Ukraine. Maybe even more than other places. So it’s not as crazy as Pizzagate. But the idea that Russia is on a humanitarian mission to rid Ukraine of neo-Nazis is, obviously, super lol. Russia only cares about Ukrainian neo-Nazis because they’ve been engaged with fighting Russians in the disputed territories.

Yes, makes sense. There are Nazis in every country because loses love the narrative that their failures are imposed on them. So Nazi ideas will always have traction. As you say, the fiction is that the Ukrainian government somehow needs to be denazified, and Western reports shouldn’t just say that is what Putin demands without pointing out that it’s a false pretext for an invasion.

Seems like the easy response is to make clear what is actually a legitimate concern, ie nothing Putin mentioned, right?
