I’m definitely not a FIFAstan, but in one of those cases the country’s sports governing body was part of the crime. In this case, they just happen to be representing that is run by a psycho who is doing something which we have no indication that they support (that I know of).

One thing with those comparisons is that Russia is taking many more casualties and equipment losses than the US ever did in Iraq/Afghanistan. This is costly to them regardless of how inevitable the victory is, and is nowhere near as easy as they thought it would be.

Feels like a really bad comparison to me. USA deaths for the whole war was 4.5k. There’s clearly been more trouble than that.

If Trump invades Mexico or some shit, yeah, I’m pretty OK with our athletes not getting to participate. It’s not their fault, no, but if mad dictators want to participate in international dick measuring contests, they should have thought about not starting wars.
