Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Huge if true, this is a Ukrainian MP:

This is the type of attack that military analysts yesterday were saying was incredibly stupid… Let’s hope that it fails again.

Maybe. But we can look into our WWI and WWII history to get a sense that “turning points” often don’t reveal their consequences for years. Leaders, particularly in Russia, regularly let troops die well after the result is known.

Perhaps I’m missing something obvious, but what exactly does a no fly zone do here? Aren’t the only people flying over Ukrainian cities right now Russia and Ukrainian militaries. Who would continue to do so.

I still don’t see how they don’t end up with some of the east after all said and done (LOL if they fail at that too), but LOL them for being so stupid we’re thinking ukraine can hold.

omg none are going to land alive

I know there’s a lot of good information coming in from good sources, but the “Ukraine is going to hold” stuff still feels like wishcasting to me. Would be awesome, but I still find it hard to believe they can withstand these nightly bombardments.

it only works sometimes even if you have air superiority. russia had it for day 1 with fighters, and on day 2 with rockets. then they had comparatively a lot less air support on day 3. putin is just sending them to get slaughtered

right, if these guys weren’t dumb as all hell there’d be no takes like that right now

Well if we enforced it, we wouldn’t allow either to fly there. It would take away Russian air superiority, and prevent them from helicopter attacks, dropping paratroopers in, or re-supplying soldiers who were in/around Kyiv via the air.

Doesn’t that involve shooting their planes out of the sky, which is basically becoming a combatant? Is there any other way to disallow someone to fly there?

Yes

That’s correct, which is why I said it would be huge if true. The source is legit, but it could easily be a wishcasting rumor among Ukrainian parliament. It would be NATO entering the conflict in a significant way that would significantly benefit Ukraine.

No paratroopers over Kyiv.

straight from olympics to the front lines.

The implication is fighter jets and pilots from EU countries other than Ukraine controlling the skies and keeping the Russians out. It would be the single biggest escalation and crossing of a red line for Putin.

It would basically take a miracle to keep the conflict from spreading to other countries if this happens

let’s go Biden! do it. think of your ratings!

Seems that the longer Ukraine holds out, the more likely it is that other countries get involved. Probably a similar principle to prison - there are others who will help those who help themselves.
