Command posts have to be crazy vulnerable right now with the drones Ukraine has. The switchblade drones are 5 or 25 pounds and can go 10 or 40km depending on if it’s the 300 or 600 model. Some dude 35km from the front can drive it into your shit like he’s on a playstation.
Russia seemingly has near zero air defenses against this. Does anyone have defenses against this? is there any air defenses setup to go after things that are model airplane sized drone? The 300 is 19 inches!
Seems like it’s artillery that can do it’s own recon and track down a target live.
I was wondering how you spot something like this. Like if you watch old war movies, officers aren’t wearing insignia and you don’t salute them and I assume there’s not a sign, “Russian Headquarters”. (Although I recall a scene with Telly Savalas as a tank commander where he sees a German tank with a flag on it and he picks it out to go after.)
Early on in the war they were using phones connected to the Ukraine phone network, I would guess they aren’t doing that anymore. The USA is definitely involved in signals intelligence right now and seems light years ahead of what Russia is using in Ukraine.
Yeah, “We saw a bunch of equipment, and after we blew it up, it turned out it was a command post,” could easily be cover for, “NATO intelligence alerted us to this juicy one and gave us the exact coordinates.”
Same video as Iron’s above, but it sure seems like it to me if they’re naming a specific general after this kind of strike they have some sort of signal intelligence.
Another major general? Geez, those guys really should have been brushing up on the scientific names of beings animalculous in the lead up to the invasion.
