Ukraine Invasion 2: no more Black Sea fleet for you

A state bans an ethnic group’s political parties, media, and language(!)

ok you got it. produce a citation with dates and references please.

This is not new, but it’s also not unusual for even a functioning democracy to restrict civil liberties during wartime.

I don’t think that’s an accurate description of their positions.

this came chekc the date after the invasion of 2022, which implicated all of the banned political parties, and whose officers assisted russian forces, and conducted sham referendums in occupied territories.

censor of media during war is something ukrainian constitution allows. yeah i’m also watching for zelensky not to turn into castro after. but that’s not the state aq describes

i’m just making an analogy. denying democratic institutions room to exist in the rest of the world is a form of imperialism.

I don’t think he claimed it happened before the invasion.

This is a different account, which may be biased:

Huh?

Ukranian govt takes better loans from Russia than the IMF offers.

Therefore, the oligarchs of NATO coup this govt, installing one that is hostile to both Russia and the ethnic Russians of Ukraine. This results in a Russian invasion, which is very bad for the people inside Ukraine’s borders. But you guys just get off on the war, rooting for what you call Ukranian self-determination, but you refuse to acknowledge where the subversion of the people’s self-determination began. You are rooting for the self-determination of this current state. The people didn’t want this all to happen. They wanted to have a secure life. They arrived at this priority after generations of horrific violence and oppression from states coming from all directions.

You guys keep making metaphors about Ukraine being a person, getting raped, whatever, instead of talking about the actual people.

Even if I humored the dumbass “Ukraine is a person” analogy, it was NATO who raped Ukraine, which made Russia go “no way bro, I’d rather kill Ukraine than see it raped” when NATO knew perfectly well Russia was a fucked up kind of state/person who believes in honor killings and shit

he claimed persecution of russians was going on for decades, and became the state policy. even if you entertained the idea that “brownshirts” were cleansing of ethnic russians, conflating it with the state ruling party policy (party didn’t even exist until 2017), is beyond dishonest.

tin foils on.

not even close. precipitating factor in the invasion is putin’s biological clock.

projection!

how far back are you willing to look back? putin’s poisoning of Yushenko? or putin’s support of Yanukovich?

all directions? in the last hunderd years, how many ukrainian generations saw horrific violence from nato? 0.
how many generations saw horrific violence from germany? 1. how many generations saw horrific violence from soviet/russian state? 2. maybe 3 if you count the civil war.

it was NATO who raped Ukraine

Straight out of her mouth

NATO knew perfectly well Russia was a fucked up kind of state/person who believes in honor killings and shit

NATO also knows perfectly well that russia is going to manufacture a reason to invade because it’s putin’s 70th birthday soon.

Maybe I’m misreading but I don’t think that analogy approached Putin’s thinking at all

better loans that come with strings. hmm…

Protests originally erupted in November 2013 after Yanukovych refused to sign the association agreement with the EU at a meeting of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius, Lithuania, choosing closer ties with Russia instead. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov had asked for €20 billion (US$27 billion) in loans and aid.[51] The EU was willing to offer €610 million ($838 million) in loans,[52] but Russia was willing to offer $15 billion,[52] as well as cheaper gas prices.[52] In addition, the EU demanded major changes to Ukraine’s regulations and laws, but Russia did not stipulate regulatory or legal adjustment of such nature or scale.[51] Russia also applied economic pressure on Ukraine and launched a propaganda campaign against the EU deal.[53]

A lot, yeah.

When Britain was stomping people and pillaging across the world, most of the bad things were its fault.

Now it’s America’s turn to be the big international asshole.

Own it.

Well, when the world is too complicated for you this kind of reductionism would be seductive.

I said international asshole, not nationalist asshole.

I’m sorry jal but taking away agency from every other group in the world just isn’t the inclusive liberal position you want it to be. It’s reductive, dumb and lazy.
