This.
absolutely not. russia has to stop bombing a lot more than civilians and infrastructure. full demilitarization should be the beginning of every negotiation
If Ukraine wants to demilitarize Russia, they’ll need to conquer Moscow
no nukes on the table i bet they could do it
Russia ain’t demilitarizing.
the war is costing russia around and into hundreds of $ millions per day, not to mention resources sunk into dead servicemen and mobiks. it’s demilitarizing, but there’s just one nuance.
nah they dont. moscow will capitulate long before its capital can be conquered.
Are we using the same definition of demilitarize? Mine is: disband most of the RuAF, including the large portions nowhere near Ukraine.
if russian army were pushed back out of crimea and behind belgorod and rostov and say novorossiysk, it will have already lost the army and everything with which to field one. behind them, there are effectively only siloviki and national guard in riot gear who are capable of beating unarmed protestors into submission, but who cannot fight anyone carrying assault rifles, much less javelins and driving himars.
And the Navy and Air Force, which are only 20% engaged.
how would the russian navy defend moscow? i think you are overestimating russian air and space forces capacity to defend land.
speaking of russian navy, it’s only carrier recently suffered a fire. while in dry dock. fixing damage from a previous fire. it may never experience bouyancy again.
the black sea flagship is with the fishes. the next time you hear about a russian sub, it is likely in the context of sinking with entire crew.
This seems like a small but significant escalation. If nothing else, it’s bound to elicit some hot air from Putin.

Scholz is insufferable. I would really want to know what everyone thinks the endgame is. I mean I doubt that Ukraine can make huge gains without heavy tanks so if nobody gives them some what are they hoping for? A repeat of 4 years western front during ww1? Hoping that Putin comes to his senses?
Germany has been doing so much for Ukraine it’s only fair that they set some conditions for the laggards like the US
Its not that we arent doing anything. Its just not as flashy as sending some HIMARS. Also taking on refugees isnt often scoring any points. Our child therapist treats few Ukrainian kids which are rough cases. Some have problems which you usually detect during pregnancy and the pregnancy gets ended subsequently in western countries.
Few days ago I read an interview with a military economist who said that many western companies that are still working in Russia arent aware of the danger of getting dispossessed. If Russia loses the war they wont pay reparations voluntarily. So if the West starts dispossessing Russian assets Russia wont be idle and will counter that move. He thinks many havent realized that we are in the phase of a major reorganization of the world order and what that means for them.
A self-propelled gun isn’t a tank. Never has been.
Longer range than the guided himars rockets they’ve been using but as its a glide bomb I’d imagine it’s easier to shoot down. It’s going to be way slower on its final approach to a target because the actual rocket that boosts the thing up in the air is basically the same and the payload weight is similar.
It’s a metal box on caterpillar tracks with a gun strapped to it. That’s a tank.
it’s not an MBT, or main battle tank, which can advance in front of infantry and provide armor against automatic gun fire.
howitzers somewhat rarely fire directly at targets, instead using high trajectories from tens of kilometers away, as was the case for this conflict’s artillery duels.
the cannons and ammo kit on an mbt and self propelled howitzer are also different. a tank holds a small number of shells and the barrels are sometimes rated at a relatively small number of shots, after which they have to be serviced or replaced. a howitzer in a battery can be deployed where it fires a thousand rounds per day, the shells are bigger, longer range, and the barrel is much more heavy duty.
