Right? Yeah focus groups said it’s stupid. And it is stupid!
But it works because it embarrasses Trump. It doesn’t make sense why it fills him with shame and humiliation. You could explain in detail dude, you’re fucking rich beyond imagination to anyone but Jeff Bezos. But he would still feel overwhelmed with humiliation.
That’s why this works. People delight in seeing this fucking bully cry. And the thing is that it’s probably even more of a delicious dunk precisely because it’s so stupid. It shouldn’t upset Trump nearly this much, but it does, so pound on it and watch him flail.

IF he loses, the hardcore base will put their MAGA hats in boxes in the attic and develop amnesia. Those who can’t figure out how to delete their FB history will still angrily defend him because their self-image is at stake, but otherwise they’ll be silent.
The less-hardcore and vocal base will swear they voted for Johnson in '16 and '20.
Once FOX sees the nutcases who ‘forced’ them to fellate Trump have gone back into the woodwork, they’ll ignore Trump for months and run stories on Hunter Biden and HRC’s emails. Tucker and Hannity will lead the charge, and will say they never backed Trump; they were Just Asking Questions like good journalists. If pressed, ownership will say Shephard Smith was the voice of FOX all along, and he criticized Trump in a Fair and Balanced way.
The GOP will do the same. Cruz will phone bank for him on Nov 3rd, and on Nov 4th will say “I told you he was a crook!”

Note broke, but a loser. A big time loser. Merely not broke yet. He’s not paying taxes because he’s been losing more in a year than a typical family will make in a lifetime. He’s been gifted obscene amounts of money from dad, from the Apprentice, and from loans, and he just keeps losing it.
This is a winning conversation you want the world to be having in big loud public places:

Trump stans: “Well actually, it just means he can’t easily liquidate all of his assets. But he’s not really broke.”

Trump - during important meetings to anyone who will listen: “You know I’m not really broke right? I have lots of valuable assets. Why can’t people understand that? Why is the mainstream media so unfair to me? Can I sue them for this? Is Judge Jeanine a lawyer? Fox and Friends needs to do a better job of explaining how rich I am …” (this goes on for 45 minutes as his aides try in vain to get the meeting back on track)
