Trump tax returns leaked. For realz.

This is so obviously correct, and a huge point.

Everybody arguing over which line to take don’t understand how stuff works now. You take every line.

It is definitely possible I’m missing something, but I think we know exactly who he owes the $421 million to. They are secured loans, collateralized by real estate and personally guaranteed by Trump, with mortgages that are publicly filed. His biggest lender by far is Deutche Bank, because duh.

To the extent he’s taken money from shady foreigners, or laundered money for them, that shit isn’t going to show up on tax returns, obviously.

I don’t know what’s reasonable in normal times, but there is no way that it’s worth the same amount now as it was a year ago and it seemed like they were using past statements of income to make a guess.

Let’s say he has 2.3B in assets by a 2019 valuation.

And this is the key. Whatever his valuation is right now he’s losing money every month. In some of those recent returns he was losing like $50B a year and that was pre-COVID and he owns hotels and office space, two of the hardest hit areas. He could easily be losing $100B a year now, if not more.

He’s going to be cash broke very soon, and he’s already liquidated way over 99% of his stocks. That means he’s gotta liquidate other assets, while in extreme financial distress, during the pandemic. He’s not going to get the 2019 book value on that stuff.

Unless the Russian oligarchs mysteriously bail him out again.

I dunno about this. People are streaming out early. He’ll have to spin it off in some other direction, like get rich quick seminars or something. I don’t think people will shell out money to hear him rant for two hours. They’re going for free now.

Plus how many cities are going to welcome him in with the police he needs or the arenas when he stiffs everyone. Right now he’s the sitting president, so it’s tough to say no.

He’ll never be homeless, he won’t be that broke. But to someone like him making a mere few mil a year will probably make him want to kill himself. What’s a guy supposed to do, shit on a silver toilet instead of gold?

How confident are we that the Dems are actually doing this, though? They should be running tons of relatively small A/B tests.

  • Of course they are, they’re the smart ones!
  • Hell no, LOL Dems

Yeah that’s another angle to this. We know of the $421M or whatever it is officially, but who the fuck knows how much of “his” assets actually belong to Russian oligarchs, or how much he owes them.

Isn’t there a rumor that a Russian oligarch co-signed these DB loans? Do we know if that’s true or false?

Funny not funny the people that he owes are currently fighting Armenia

It’s not new news that he owes the folks there a shit ton of money, after all the kids did send Jnr that Email.

Well now you’re making me relate to the guy.

It should be simpler than that - ‘so which is it Donald. You’re broke or you’ve committed tax fraud?’

I strongly disagree. He’s the leader of a death cult, and huge swaths of the country are literally buying and flying TRUMP flags in their front yards and from their trucks. They are holding boat parades. He could start a GoFundMe tomorrow and make millions in a matter of hours. He’ll have endless television and book deals flowing to him like water. Hell, he could reboot the Apprentice and make another half billion. Being a former President of the United States doesn’t make his brand LESS valuable. It sucks, and it’s infuriating that people are so foolish and gullible, but thems the breaks I’m afraid.

I really like the idea of him losing, becoming politically toxic, then siphoning off money from idiots that would otherwise be going to Republicans.

Nah. The cult isn’t what it used to be. It’s just not. Look at a rally from the past few weeks and compare it to a rally from 2016.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. But take a drive through the rural NY North Country and you see crumbling trailer after crumbling trailer flying their TRUMP Keep America Great! flags. And the guy is quite likely to win re-election in a month. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here with the demise of Trumpism, imo - tens of millions of people are about to vote for him to run the country.

I live in rural Tennessee. It’s nothing like 2016. I can’t even remember the last time I saw a red MAGA hat. In 2016 I saw at least 10 a day. The hard-core Trumpkins are more vocal, yes. But it wouldn’t shock me if he receives less votes than he did in 2016.

Yeah that I def agree with - I’m optimistic for the election but I’m bearish on Trump going broke because nobody likes him anymore.

Yeah, I think that asking who he owes the money to in a journal article or a tweet isn’t that effective or something that most people pick up on, but asking him to his face is money, for exactly the reason you describe. We’d expect him to be evasive. One thing we’ve learned from this administration is that the combination of biases that people have to, one, favor their own team, and two, think that things done openly are probably OK while things done in secret are likely bad, is one helluva drug that let’s Trump get away with anything. It’s why Trump’s call for Russian aid was fine, but Hillary’s secret email server was some how a scandal. Get Trump being evasive and secretive. It’s a terrible look for him.
