Travel Addicts/Advice Thread

While we’re on the topic, I’ve heard that Nexus gets you full Global Entry benefits.

Is that just from Canada or from anywhere you fly? I might just go that route if Nexus is basically Global Entry with the extra driving to/from Canada benefit.

I go to Canada enough that interviewing there should be easy.

Also it looks like Nexus cards are free for kids and half price for adults. Can anyone confirm that. That’s a $300 savings, which is pretty decent (especially since I don’t have a CC that covers the cost).

i applied for nexus right before pandemic, because it was supposed to include the same benefits. got advanced to interview stage and wasted 18 months not wanting to travel. then they told me it was going to expire and there were no interview slots left. so i had to switch the application to global entry and just got it. kind of a joke system

Can’t get global entry if you’ve had a dui. Don’t be like me and go through the whole process, including taking of fingerprints, and then find out at the very end you’re not eligible.

It may be different if the dui is over 10 years old. I might try again next year.

All of this talk of managing the dehumanizing process of going to the airport is just making me want to stay in my house forever. LET’S GO COVID FOUR MORE YEARS!

Looking like Northern Italy is our winner, possibly popping up into Switzerland as well. Thank you all for your advice!

I have only a few times had the chance to do long term travel. Mostly trips of a week to 10 days. I imagine the stress is less as the travel to time stay time ratio widens.

It’s balls expensive, but the Lauterbrunnen valley is an easy contender for the most beautiful places on earth. It numerous connections away from the Italian border but you can buy tickets straight through and the Swiss time their rail connections magnificently.

I assume Global Entry would make it less likely that I get flagged coming back into the US and they search through all my stuff, so I should probably look into it.

I’m not asking you, but in general I wonder if this applies to dui where a they are dropped from the record after year or whatever.
Had 1 a few years ago. Never hit my insurance but I figure tsa has better visibility

I think it depends on the state and what the official status is. I know in CA “expunged” just means not visible to future employers. It does not mean hidden from law enforcement or the Justice Department database that border guards have access to.

I know this because I also technically can’t get into Canada. But I have twice. It’s just up to if the Canadian border officials want to run your full record and be hardasses.

I think if you get it pled down to a wet-reckless in CA then it goes off your record.

This is totally on the list. Doesn’t seem that expensive. Just absurdly nice looking Airbnbs for like $300/night.

Looks decent.

I want to move there and herd goats for the rest of my days.

I just cleared security at JFK and really would not recommend this airport to my worst enemy. Just awful in every way. Outdated buildings, terrible signage, absurdly awful and long security process, awful food, crowded, dirty, how is an airport this shitty even possible in a truly great city.

Switzerland’s expensive as hell.

Was considering a day trip to a small town just over the border from Italy but round trip transport was gonna be about $50. $45 for one hour train ride each way. Then, the funicular to get to the top of a mountain nearby was gonna be around $20. Toss in the cost of food while there and I was looking at a close to $100 day trip.

Sure it has its beautiful places but I don’t consider it worth the price.

Anyway, I’m going to Slovakia during Easter Break. Taking an overnight train to Košice on Wednesday. Looking forward to checking out the Tatras.

$100 doesn’t seem that bad. People often spend more than that going to a sportsball game.

I can’t get my pictures to load correctly but after 1 day in Italy I’m ready to pack up the family and live here forever.

Haven’t come across a single Italian that would endorse that decision.

But yeah pretty beautiful country.

Italy is fine but it’s not as good as Ohio.

If you are talking about orientation you have to do any sort of edit first before you upload. Can be the smallest possible thing.
