I was there for a bachelor party and we did the degenerate Bourbon street/strip clubs stuff for a couple nights and then spent a night on Frenchman, it was a good time would definitely recommend it.

buy yeah ElSapo’s vibe is what i like, wander around eat food and drink

I played poker in NO lately and was disappointed there is nothing at all to eat besides pizza on Bourbon St after midnight

No more Lucky Dogs?

Hmm you might be right there was pizza and hotdogs! Are lucky dogs a thing? I may have chosen poorly.

I’ve never had one sober, but in my drunken memories of them they’re fucking delicious.

Fair enough! my sober slice of pizza was awful

The best thing to do in New Orleans is to get a chocolate snoball with condensed milk.

If you’re into fight club antics, just call it a snow cone and you’ll get your ass beat for free.

Is that a dessert or a sex act?

i’m assuming that is something you can do a few key bumps off.

My wife has decided our family is traveling internationally this summer. Our preferred destination is Japan for a variety of reasons, but it is not open for tourism and the prospects of that changing soon don’t look good. So we need a new destination.

About us: me, my wife, our 17 year old, and our 13 year old. We have a history of being bad at travel (everybody gets stressed and bickers, or is lazy and doesn’t want to do anything once we arrive at our destination), but in the last year have taken two domestic trips with great success. So we’re getting ambitious. I am a homebody - my worst instincts involve isolation, routine, etc. I am following the family’s lead, but still think we should perhaps not get overly ambitious, like multiple countries on one trip, or places super far outside of our comfort zone. Japan was our #1 because both my kids at one time were in Japanese immersion school, I have multiple friends there, we looooove Sushi, and in general it seems pretty cool.

Anyway, would love any ideas or suggestions. I’ve heard great things about Greece and have never been to Italy. My wife leans toward the more exotic and was talking about Marrakesh today.

How about a European river cruise? You can see multiple countries and not have to worry about traveling and moving from hotel to hotel.

Gotta choose a fairly innocuous country with minimal cultural adjustment required given your description. I’d say UK would be a good option since there’s no change in language.

Japan is my bucket list trip but it’s so damn expensive.

Definitely on my list, but apparently in July they get 20 hours of sunlight a day which has my wife spooked.

Initial thought is Spain, but specifically what do you want to do/see?

What did your “successful domestic trips” entail?

Seems like London is the answer. Tons to do, same language, fairly easy trip.

Have you been off the continent, like, at all? Because, like, if your family hasn’t been to Paris, I’d go to Paris. Or, if not Paris, then London. Just killer cities with tons to do within the limits, and even more if you’re willing to go even the least bit afield.

We’re in a similar boat, btw. We were thinking of going to Japan for our 10th, but might do Spain, China, or Turkey instead.

Went to Iceland in June of 2009 and basically didn’t see night for the entire two weeks.

These trips were to North Carolina and Arizona. In both places we visited the usual suspects, but really enjoyed exploring on our own and going off the beaten path.

I went to France and England as kid but have not left the US since (except for just over the border in Mexico). My kids have never left the US.

Perhaps we are getting drawn in by FPS, and it might be silly to go to Tunisia or something when my kids have never been to London and Paris.

Singapore is vaguely exotic but very easy to visit. Lots of great food. Nice beaches. Nature reserves with nifty hiking trails that aren’t very far away. And, um, malls. Hella malls.

It’s also like 20 hours away.
