@Fossilkid93

Which should I go with? Lucha Libre at Arena Mexico or Arena Coliseo?

Also any recommendations to add in my excel sheet? Only going to be in Mexico City from Tuesday - Friday. Thanks!

Arena MĂ©xico is the cooler and much larger venue, Coliseo is kinda smallish and a bit of a dump, but even there lucha libre is still fun and totally worth it. It’s a lot more intimate, so maybe if you do floor seats there, it might be worth it for you.

Frida Kahlo Museum is an amazing neighborhood called Coyoacán. I’d definitely visit there also, go to the Fuente de Los Coyotes and explore from there. It’s a bit out of the way from the other places, but definitely worth it.

You could add in Mercado Ciudadela and Biblioteca Vasconcelos, which are right next to each other. The former is a local market with vendors selling tons of stuff, the latter an outdoorish library which is really cool and unique.

Your list doesn’t mention Paseo de la Reforma, but I’d definitely do that. You can exit from Bosque del Chapultepec onto Reforma and then walk it for a while and see some cool skyscrapers (Torre Reforma was the skyscraper of the year in 2018) and monuments (Angel, Diana, etc.).

When you’re near Centro HistĂłrico, walk through Parque Alameda a bit and definitely stop at the cafĂ© called Porfirio’s, it’s in the Sears building on 14 Ave. JuĂĄrez. You take the elevator up to the 8th floor, and you’ll be treated to some epic views.

It’s a chain restaurant, but it’s actually quite good, it’s called Casa de Toño, and it’s super fast and cheap. I’d recommend ordering one item of a bunch of different stuff (small pozole, 1 flauta, 1 taco de cochinita, 1 enchilada verde, and agua de horchata to wash it down). It’s an easy way to try a bunch of different Mexican food.

There’s soooo much more to do in this amazing city, but that should about cover it for your stay. Feel free to ask if you have more questions.

i am giving up on catching up to this thread to bring you this important information. holy crap, this might be an all-time great time to visit europe (specifically spain) from the states, and i’m not just talking about the exchange rate. accommodations were cheaper, car rentals and cabs were cheaper than anywhere in the states, food was better, portions just as big, drinks a lot less than lolseattle (3€ sidra bottles were so nuts i am pretty sure i developed a case of heartburn).

flights were about $1k with two connections, which sucks, but the rest of the experience was much cheaper and better than our andalusia trip ten years ago.

This might be useful if your American passport is expiring soon:

Euro dropping a lot. I did something similar with Turkey. Ultra mega cheap for foreign tourists.

So glad my summer job gets paid in US dollars!

I was conditioned to believe that American portion sizes are out of control compared to the ROW, but our experience on our Europe trip was that we were always served enormous amounts of food.

even more surprising was that i regularly didn’t finish portions, but all the locals around us ordered more and ate it all!

it took me a few days to just resign and ask “para llevar por favor” at the end of the meal

On the way into New Orleans passed a billboard saying “1 in 5 Black babies die from abortion”. I would appear to have arrived in THE SOUTH.

god, louisiana is the fucking worst. I am planning to make a pilgrimage to lake charles area to do some geneology research in the next year and I’m super not looking forward to it. it’s the butthole of america.

you look at every single possible metric for states and louisiana is either last by a shitload or #48.

Your pony needs a new passport.

I’ve actually been to Lake Charles. They used to have (?still have) an absolute shit riverboat casino. I still happily went as live poker options were few and far between back in the day.

lol, I might actually have to do that. that sounds sick. my ancestors are from that area

NOLA is awesome though, Lake Charles
 is not.

lol yea apparently I have a ton of relatives down there and streets named after us and crap, I have to do a bunch of interviews for a project I’m doing. But I researched the area and it’s super super rough. The history is absolutely fascinating though

Had a med school friend from there and did a four week rotation out there. It sucked.

it has been devastated by hurricanes and a ton of other shit, it looks absolutely horrible, basically the only people still there seem to be the ones that couldn’t relocate

the thing is I hate mosquitoes more than any other thing on the planet so im planning to go in the dead of winter

Cost of living seems pretty brutal here for stuff like restaurants. Like I just went to a nice but not silver-service restaurant (Gris-Gris suggested by @Nozetradamus) and had an appetizer, entree and a couple glasses of wine. After tip it was 80 bucks. That would probably cost a similar amount of AUD in Australia (which would be 57 USD), but the minimum wage there is 21.38 AUD per hour. IDK what shitty jobs are paying here but you are fucked trying to afford that on 13 bucks an hour or whatever.

Dollar is strong these days.

I just looked at hotels for spring break and prices are completely absurd literally everywhere. To the point we will just stay home. Annoying.

If Riverman is staying home, economy is well fucked.
