Such a fail though. The average American was primed to hate bin Laden. The average anerican doesn’t know who Maduro is,
What I think is kind of funny is how when law enforcement does a perp walk they try to find the tallest cops they can find to make the perp look short. Maduro is huge (listed at 6’3” but looks taller) and made the perp walkers look small.
patel is like 5’7” and he doesnt like it when fbi people are taller than him. they had to get him a girl’s vest during the charlie kirk thing
I was surprised he was short when I found it out (never had seen him stand until he became FBI director), because he has the type of head that belongs on someone 6 foot plus.
So was Maduro stopping oil conglomorates form operating in Venezuela or was that the US sanctions?
Oil was nationalized way before him, if I remember correctly. Microbet knows all the history.
Shrug - I don’t know anything really about Venezuela that is deeper than wikipedia level (maybe a little 19th century stuff). Nationalization was in the mid-70s. Venezuela confiscated some oil company assets in 2007. Chevron has had some kind of special deal (with Venezuela probably, but for sure with the USA as an exception to sanctions) where they are the only US/Western oil company (I think) that has been operating there.
Chevron is really a shitty company. They have recently funded death squads in Nigeria, military junta in Myanmar, massive pollution dumping in Ecuador Nigeria and Angola, they killed the electric car (before it came back to life - they bought the patent for large-format NiMH batteries just so they could not be produced). But that Techron is supposed to be pretty good for your fuel injectors.
And they ate Texaco.
boy’s husky*
Who’s the best oil company that operates internationally?
M-Tex
Landman S3: Tommy goes to Venezuela.
I’m sure none are good, but my wild guess for least bad is Equinor ASA.
You laugh but it might go Lioness to Landman
The never-ending nationalization/privatization cycle. Get the hoi polloi all riled up for a populist revolution, redistribute the wealth to yourself and cronies, hang on for as long as you can.
Then I pick up my guitar and play, just like yesterday.
A few things to think about in terms of US oil companies going into Venezuela.
those same companies have invested half a trillion dollars in Canadian oil sands and wouldn’t want to hurt that investment. The Texas refinery industry is also designed to process heavy sour crude from Venezuela and Canada so the US actually exports lots of its light sweet crude and then imports the heavy crude to refine.
Are we actually finally approaching Peak Oil™️?
Would be amusing if this whole thing unravels because this admin is too stupid to realize that oil companies don’t want into Venezuela like they assumed.
