The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

I’m having fun. Last couple of episodes, it’s felt like they have a better handle on the characters.

I know nothing aside from the commercials. It will go In the queue.

It’s not particularly innovative. In fact, it’s rather straight-forward in it’s execution of genre tropes. It’s a bit too much teen drama for some people. There’s a sort of self-awareness that some find off-putting, not in a fourth-wall breaking sort of way, but kind of winking at the audience. Standard slog of the first couple of episodes being exposition-y and introducing viewers to characters and setting up the plot.

I do enjoy comics, but ain’t nobody got time for that. Currently planning on buying all of Hellblazer and finally reading it all in chronological order.

Looking for new series to watch. I guess what I want is something good that I might have missed. In the last year I saw The Americans and The Shield, both of which I enjoyed. Anyone have any ideas? If it was very popular (e.g. Wire, BB, Sopranos), I’ve already seen it. So I guess I need some second tier stuff that I haven’t seen. This is probably a pretty dumb request, since I’m basically asking for someone to read my mind. But who knows. well see what happens.

Probably need some guidance on the sort of thing you like. Severance, tho

Severance was great. Already saw it.

I like dramas better than comedies. I avoid superhero stuff. Star Wars stuff is good, though (seen it all).

So stuff I like that comes to mind

Wire
BB/BCS
Sopranos
Mad Men
Justified
Bosch
Deadwood
Squid Game
White Lotus
Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon
Stranger Things
Severance
The Americans
The Shield
Succession
Industry
Ozark
Casa De Papel
Alice in Borderland

I assume you’ve seen Dark?

I liked Haunting of Hill House quite a bit, it’s a horror/family drama. It’s not prestige TV but it’s well made.

I haven’t seen either. I’ll check them out. Thanks!

Wow, that’s a great list for me! Only seen one (Goliath).

I didn’t love Station Eleven (and I do really like the book) but it was OK. The Sinner was… not good. Upvote for Russian Doll, though. My gf quit on me for S2 so I haven’t watched that yet, but S1 very good.

Oh Fargo seasons 1 and 2 are awesome if you haven’t seen them, they should be top of your list imo.

Yeah, saw them all.

Station Eleven was one of those situations where they made a total thematic change from the book and that pissed me off, but from memory my gf who was coming into it fresh didn’t like it much either.

Same, I didn’t love Station Eleven.

But! I think it was good, just not to my taste. It got such widespread acclaim that I can’t help but think Melk will probs like it.

The Sinner s1 reminded me Jessica Biel can act.

I loved Station Eleven. No experience with the source material.

The Sinner season one was pretty good. I barely remember season two but I think it was OK. Things start to get iffy in season three and season four was bad.

Check out “Candy” on Hulu if you like Jessica Biel at all. Her husband has a small role in it as well, but it’s her show.

I loved season 1 and did not like 2 at all.
