The Supreme Court: Playing Calvinball and going on free trips since 1789

You should try out for this position:

Are you any good at physical contests?

Apparently this tweet from GG is a joke. Heā€™s impersonating idpol liberals who deploy bullshit accusations of sexism or racism like this to discredit criticism of people they like. I think itā€™s a callback to people doing this to him after he criticised Kamala post-debate.

Heā€™s replying to people on Twitter being like ā€œhow can you be so dumb, obvious jokeā€ but should probably give some thought to why so many people were willing to accept it as real. Responding to anti-Trump and anti-GOP journalism with tedious ā€œmedia criticismā€ contrarianism is what heā€™s spent half of the last four years doing. The only thing weird about this tweet was couching the attack in the language of identity politics.

Even that isnā€™t weird. He has dozens of satirical tweets where he points out instances of woke hypocrisy where liberals apply one standard of speech targeting those on the left and another targeting the right.

Iā€™d bet itā€™s only a joke because he got called out making the exact same tweet years earlier.

when does greenwald ever police word choices like that? He constantly makes fun of that sort of thing. Itā€™s obviously a joke.

ā€œWhen you first use a poker HUD, it feels as though a veil has been lifted and the fundamental strategies of your opponents laid bare. You will always remember using a HUD for the first time and being amazed at how obvious your opponentsā€™ habits become.ā€

Giving thought to people who donā€™t understand when I am joking is a great lesson that I too am unwilling to learn.

So how long will this charade last? When do they vote on this vile woman?

I mean, heā€™s not even wrong that the careerist label is used to undermine successful people, and of course is used disproportionately on women. So to walk that back as a joke is somehow doubly wrong

Well that confirms heā€™s packing the court for me. Thatā€™s definitely not ā€˜Iā€™m not going to pack the courtā€™. Thatā€™s the sad noises you make before you do something you wish you didnā€™t have to doā€¦ or at least want to communicate that youā€™re conflicted about it (even if you totally arenā€™t).

Almost the ideal answer in this spot too. Man itā€™s going to take me a while to adjust to not shaking my head in wonder every time the WH does basic blocking and tackling for a while. Like the level of competence I expect from trucking companies would have me violently shook at this point. This is not a high bar.

I think joe will do whatever the party tells him he should do tbh. Hopefully thatā€™s court packing.

Fapping to SCOTUS nominee? Oops sorry for another kink shaming.

Am I wrong in thinking that quite a few of the writers and signatories to the constitution expressively voiced the view that it was living document and should change with the times?

If so how is this originlist bollocks still a thing?

Not really. If it were so, their words would be repeated constantly in support of the idea of a living constitution.

He likes a stern woman - itā€™s the weather up there that does it.

So is this by Jefferson ignored because he didnā€™t sign it (only because he was out of the country not because he wouldnā€™t). And were these views not expressed by others. I grew up in England so generally curious as Iā€™ve always thought is was generally accepted that the founding fathers wrote it to be adjusted and changed as times change.

ā€™Some men look at constitutions with sanctimonious reverence, and deem them like the ark of the covenant, too sacred to be touched. They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment. I knew that age well; I belonged to it, and labored with it. It deserved well of its country.'

ā€™I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects.'

ā€™Laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.'
