Literary

A popular show in Japan that assesses works of art had on yesterday a work by the artist Keith Haring, similar to the one pictured below, but it was literally a doodle, scrawled on the notebook of a fan.

It was valued at $40,000.

Fool me once…

Hopper is one of my favorites. Have you seen Nighthawks in person? It’s fairly enormous and you can walk right up to it.

The first two heads that were posted are def sicko and I like the sword man as well. Of the ones you posted, the third one really kills in my opinion, middle one is alright and first isn’t my favorite. There are two aspects of his work that are significant to me: (1) how he controls space and color and (2) the universe where these weird scribble characters live that exists only in his mind. Cis-het-cauc-male here.

This is a painting that was on a wall at work that people complained about so I got to take it home for free.

That’s pretty cool. Have you done any research on it? I can’t make out the signature exactly. Funhull or Finhull?

Did a quick Google image search and this came up. Is yours this big? And was it always hung in that orientation?

I don’t have an ig account, but here is the link if you wanted to look for the actual image.

I haven’t.

Where is it?

I know nothing about art, but i do know that my wife’s grandmother was a huge private art collector of Israeli art. Which means she had a decent amout of money at one point and now all the money she had is in art that literally no one wants to buy (they even tried loaning it to museums to display and were turned down).

Thanks nana.

Yeah it’s at Art Institute which is gigantic and takes many hours to actually go through entirely. In that image I posted, American Gothic is casually hanging on the wall down that narrow hallway to the left. It’s such an odd experience bumping into some of the most famous paintings you’ve seen your entire life in the same room. I’m also fond of Magritte and especially Time Transfixed which was kind of discreetly tucked away in a corner when I was there.

I understand why. I reminds me of migraine. That such an abstract painting can make you feel uncomfortable is a testament to the painter.

I looked up Fin Hull and couldn’t find much. It was always hung horizontal. Not quite as large as that picture and also more rectangular than square.

I interpret it as violence and nightmares. The photo I posted was when it was in the office in a well lit room. On the wall in my spare bedroom it’s much darker and makes it scarier. I get an Alan Wake feeling where something could come out of the painting and attack me. I love it!

Same here. I read a story when I was a teenager that I was reminded of when reading your post: A Clean, Well-Lighted Place.
