I think most closed-backs have similarly good isolation. The PSB m4u1 is $99 new on Amazon (see my referral link in the ads thread) and the NAD Viso hp50 can be found for a similar price used. They both sound great and are tuned closely to the Harman curve I mentioned. That’s to say they’re “neutral” to the best we’ve been able to scientifically define it as of 2018, versatile genre-wise and are strong in bass (but without being muddy like consumer headphones).
Thank you!
Interesting I didn’t know about the A&K Jr, only their expensive models.
Discontinued but can be had for ~$200 now.
This reminded me I wanted to A/B the two, so I did just now. To me they sound very similar, too similar to tell if I like one more than the other. That’s no surprise given their similar graphs (plus they share a creator, Paul Barton). I find the hp50 to be comfier because the pads don’t touch the edge of your ears. I did a rough test of the isolation by making noises near my ears with each pair on. I think the hp50 has the slight edge in isolation. So overall I say if you can find an hp50 in good condition for a good price, go with that.
But if you have a small head, go with the PSB. I originally bought the Nad hp50 for my husband to do his mixing, but he says it doesn’t have a small enough headband adjustment for his head. So then I found the psb m4u2 for $53 on ebay (same sound as the m4u1) and got that for him and kept the nad hp50 for me. Now the running joke is that he has a pea-brain
Here’s another closed-back I can vouch for, the B&O h6 1st gen going for very cheap on ebay (but the seller has no feedback history). The sound edge probably goes to the other two, but the h6 is the comfiest of the three and definitely the most visually pleasing.
Edit - apparently the hp50 is on sale for 108 cad ($81 usd), new, at a store I hadn’t heard of.
No lie, I’m more psyched for the release of Cosmic Crisp apples than anything else this season. Biggest apple release of all time.
The 58x is on sale for $135 now. With the $20 off for first timers you could get them for $115 which is insane.
I’m gonna be that guy…
By calling it “african-american friday” is the joke implied “we all know its black but the PC police make us say african-american now”?
Yes, this is a really unfunny and shitty joke. Yet another fine effort by NBZ, willing to be offensive in new and exciting ways.
One more vote for thread title change if that’s what’s happening.
- Check the thread title to “Black Friday…”
- Don’t change the thread title.

Now this is some anarchism in action!
Here’s an IEM lead for you. I just read someone compare the Samsung Galaxy Buds to the AKG k371, so I looked up the FR and sure enough, the Buds have a great curve. And I have been seeing them mentioned a lot lately. Given their brand and name, I wouldn’t have thought to consider them, but they might actually be really good.
Where y’all at with the cool gift ideas? Here’s another pick: Bornn Enamelware Marble Collection. Calling @Rivaldo and @Smrk4 for these seriously rad swirl designs on bakeware and dinnerware. Remind you of any particular guitars that are worth a fortune? These are hand-dipped in Turkey; each piece is different.

Looks like a guitar.
Well I’ve done some reading and what I’m about to tell you is going to sound horrifying. I’m almost positive I’ve tossed several pairs of MH755’s over the last few years after wearing out the cables at the gym. For gifting I’ve decided to do the Final Audio E1000 and include Spinfits, Comply foam, and some other accesories.
It’s the headstock( or whatever they term it) of a guitar that was provided in replica form for purchase and in limited number to fans of guitarist Vernon Reid(aka consumers the world over)… who is pictured in my avatard and below holding the guitar in question with the swirl motif that lawnmower was hinting at, I think !
