The Presidency of the Joes, part II: lol documents

And apologies to a lot of you for the anger/passion, but this is a deeply personal topic for me. Laughing at the photo can only come from a place of ignorance. Not much else to it.

Excellent cutting job to rip away the context. Truly ikesian stuff. Let’s go back, shall we.

Clearly I’m talking here about odds of what I think is correct. Was that too hard to understand? Objectionable?

Do you speak english? Do you know what ‘seems like’ means and implies?

Ok there’s one. Now, what’s wrong with it? It’s seem more like a truism. You’re telling me that someone who needs a hospital bed would not be in a room with one? Obviously they can leave the room for one reason or another, but if they need a bed, they would be in a bed and that bed would be in a room.

LOL this after your “explanation” of assertions 5 min ago.

If you can’t understand why someone might be more emotive on subjects that are deeply personal to them that’s an issue you have, not me. It is not a basis to accuse me of not caring about anything else.

It’s actually standard conservative behavior.

My kids aren’t that old, so I’ve experienced this set up first hand. As I said, if that is an option that is available to adopted parents, it’s news to me, but I’ll take your word for it, and if that was the set up, then the photo actually seems pretty natural.

It’s normal for regular people to care more about issues that affect them personally. It’s normal for conservatives to only care about issues that affect them personally.

I know.

It’s standard human behavior. You’re talking about how conservatives suddenly change their minds about a particular subject when it affects them… that’s also not unique to conservatives. More importantly, the key part of this phenomenon you’re referring to is a change in position. That doesn’t apply to me whatsoever.

Unless, of course, you mean to imply that liberals aren’t shaped by their personal experiences, which would be laughably stupid.

Bro’s first night out of the womb I slept holding her in a hospital bed. My wife was scared she’d drop her.

Yeah. I get why it’s a little silly but also I understand why gay couples would take photos like this. Don’t get why anyone is upset by it.

Who is upset? I think the photo is funny, which has apparently made other people upset.

They didn’t have a bassinet you could set her down in? Things must have been tough in the old days.

Yeah, this. The only upset person is ikes.

Possibly ZZ, but I’m not sure about that.

Bro didn’t get set down for a couple years. (Along came Nano)

Yeah, that tends to happen when #2 comes along.

I remember when my wife delivered she was instructed not to sleep with baby in bed. Apparently there were cases where mom rolled and injured kid. I just had a chair that had a pull out to turn it into a bed of sorts. We were generally holding the kid when one of us was awake and kid was awake. There may have been a rare 20 min period when all 3 of us were asleep. That was bassinet time. We also did put them down if they fell asleep and we felt we could make the transfer without waking them up. Success rate on that was not great.

Travel back in time X years and show this picture to people saying “Here’s a picture of an openly gay, legally married Cabinet secretary and his husband with their newborn twins.” The overwhelming response is going to be one of shock, disbelief, and outright disgust. Definitely true for X>30, maybe even X>20.

Pretty good sign that in 2021 this event is so mundane we can laugh at the optics of the staged photo. Obviously the shock and disgust is still out there, it’s just not pervasive. The zeitgeist has shifted bigly.

For the record I thought it was just a cute photo but also laughed hard when zikzak started it off with “why the hell are they in a hospital bed?”

Why the heck was this reported?
