Restoring SALT deductions would be a personal boon, but I’m not sure if we should spend capital or dollars to restore it.
Uber rich need to be taxed more, but fulfilling longer-term progressive goals will require getting Americans making $100,000+, (where most of the SALT benefit sits) to get used to paying materially higher taxes than they do today. In this case Republicans have already done the dirty work, even if was for the wrong reason, so I’d let that one lay.
Perhaps the Defund the Police advocates have goals other than electing eDems. So, I can agree that the Dems that want to shut the hell up about it can do just that, while they give more money to the police.
Another way to look at Defund the Police is that it is actually the fastest rising/gaining position out there. It polled at 0% one year ago, and it has increased infinity percent since then.
Expecting new policy proposals to instantly gain popular acceptance is kind of weird. MLK’s activism was polling horribly in the early 60’s, should he have stopped doing what he was doing?
It’s obviously the perpetual struggle for the good guys - how hard to push unpopular but morally imperative government policy.
In this case, Democrats can achieve the end goal without losing elections. Just win and do it, it doesn’t require federal legislation and in fact the federal government can’t do that much even if it wants to.
Actual Dems running for office typically don’t campaign on Defund The Police so it’s hard to blame that for Dem electoral problems. I think the issue is the messaging vacuum from the establishment meaning that activists are the only ones doing messaging. I meant to reply to that whole discussion about the Shor piece and never got around to it, but Florida is the poster child for Hispanic abandonment of the Dems and minimum wage passed with 60% support there. As I said right after the election, having a “left wing” party which can’t win a state where minimum wage increase gets 60% is fucking abysmal. The Dems should have been out there yelling A $15 MINIMUM WAGE, A FAIR DEAL FOR HARD WORKING AMERICANS and when someone is like what about Defund The Police they should have been like well I don’t know anything about that malarkey, I’m here to talk about A $15 MINIMUM WAGE, A FAIR DEAL FOR HARD WORKING AMERICANS. The fact that they are unwilling to organise around a coherent message like this is not the fault of Defund The Police.
Even the deplorables get it now, it’s why they were ready to lynch Mike Pence the second Trump go. It’s just that, for now, they are kind of willing to accept the rich as a necessary part of their coalition to yield power.
So back when Bernie was getting dragged for touting his Rogan endorsement I was like “what about how Clinton is best buds with Kissinger”, and, uh, as far as I can tell this is a real tweet, meant sincerely.
Yeah, I was watching Fox Biz earlier today for the lols and they mentioned the number in passing but quickly moved on. Even those assholes know that’s a loser for their subhuman audience.
I wonder who he really supported. The majority of people I knew who went to work for Bloomberg were planning on voting for other people. This doesn’t make this dude any less of a shitbag, just a different type than what you might think.
If I run across him in any meetings, I’ll definitely talk about it in my blog
Defund the police was terrible fucking messaging. It’d be like calling “pro-choice” people “pro-baby death.” If you’re going to criticize the eDems for terrible messaging (and you’re right!) maybe a little introspection would help as well.
