As long as the rich are taxed appropriately we shouldn’t worry about giving $2000 to millionaires and billionaires.
I know that one argument for giving the stimulus to everyone is to not piss off people who fall above the cutoff, but is this really worse than having people later learn that the government is taking it back when they sit down to do their taxes?
No matter what you do people will be unhappy with their taxes.

Every single GOP Senator just voted against COVID relief.
Why did Dems pass the amendment cutting out undocumented immigrants?
Who are the asshole sponsors of the anti-NY ammendment?
Well that’s just them being dumb and/ or whining bitches about paying tax. They prolly do that about anything to do w taxes whenever possible anyway, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Personally speaking, I don’t think my concern is pissing off people making above 75k or 100k or whatever, although I’d be open to arguments over where exactly that line should be drawn. I’m much more worried about someone who a.) makes 70k, got a check under Trump, and won’t under Biden, and b.) made 125k in 2019 and lost their job in May, and doesn’t qualify because we’re using 2019 income for a reason that literally nobody can explain.
I’m personally in a weird spot because I made between 50-75k in 2019, but more than 75k in 2020 - so I got the Trump check and likely won’t get Biden, but really didn’t need either of them. This is obviously not something I’ll be angry about if I don’t get round 2, but I bet there are a lot of people in similar situations who will.
Here’s a list of Trump nominees that were withdrawn:
I am.
In 2016, Trump won the $50k-$100k demographic by 4 points.
In 2020, Biden won it by 15 points.
This is over a third of the electorate. We can’t afford (electorally) to piss off these voters.
The Democrats are at a high risk of getting slaughtered in 2022/2024 if they don’t start doing things for people.
I’d rather give them the money than not, for sure. And yeah, this is a good point.
Written by Tim Scott, cosponsored by Lankford and Barasso.
There was an amendment for funding the embassy in Jerusalem where the only nays were Carper, Sanders, and Warren.
There was an amendment for health savings accounts passed by Republicans, Manchin, Sinema, and Kelly. Republicans, Manchin, and Tester for improving US-Canada relations over the Keystone XL pipeline. Republican fracking amendment had Bennett, Casey, Heinrich, Hickenlooper,
Lujan, Manchin, and Tester. Republicans plus Hassan, Hickenlooper, Kelly, Manchin, Peters, Sinema, Stabenow, and Tester for banning stimulus checks to the undocumented. Republicans, minus Collins, plus Manchin for prohibiting the canceling of border wall contracts if it causes a penalty.
Democrats plus Collins on an amendment for “preventing the provision of Small Business Administration assistance to any individual convicted of a misdemeanor or felony for actions during or in connection with a riot or civil disorder.”
There was a unanimous vote for an amendment on funding the police. Everyone but Lee voted for a provider relief fund with a set-aside for rural hospitals.
Yes I’m sure the Democrats are very concerned about an aggrieved MTG using her free time in a way that politically harms them.
Oh good, Larry fucking Summers has entered the chat. These eDem losers need to get the Hillary treatment (they all worked for her anyway) and just go away forever.
And I get it, I really do, this is what he almost has to say politically and his words don’t matter, only his actions. But it’s impossible as a person that cares to read this and not be enraged. Republicans saying “I would have voted for A but you did B so now I’m voting no” is the ultimate Lucy with the football lie. And Manchin is ALREADY getting what he wants! They’re doing means testing and just yesterday he said $1.9T was the right number.

It’s hard for me to make sense of comments like this:

When paired with actual plans including means testing. Basically it’s all words and we should probably save our rage for the actual bill.
Seems like false bravado to me.
yes, absolutely, no matter what you do to these shitheads, they’re always going to claim “HAHAHA you played right into my hands!”
I’m in the exact same situation as you, but more annoyed. I don’t feel “owed” anything per se, it just seems arbitrary and dumb and will actually screw over a lot of peopoe.
According to the bullet points posted by econophile two posts above yours, jobless people will get $400 per week through September. If you made 50-75k in 2019, you’ll get a check for some amount under any version of the plan I’ve seen, but not the full $1400 in the latest plans.
100%. She is PISSED she won’t be weilding any power. Especially on the ed committee.
