To be fair, the cause of something like this would have happened years ago. It is very unlikely to be related to recent deregulation. It’s likely a failure of the internal corporate integrity program.
What amazes me the most is how I never would’ve dreamed that a middle school level thinking and strategy could be this effective coming from a place like the White House. The entire country has just accepted that we have a president with a 4th grader mentality and we are apparently okay with it

While the blame may not fall at the foot of dear leader, it does have everything to do with the US government’s complete failure to respect the autonomy of tribal lands the pipeline flows through.
When’s the last time Batgirl wore a skirt? I’m kind of disappointed her costume doesn’t reflect the trend of female superheroes wearing more functional outfits.
It doesn’t traverse tribal owned lands, just tribal claimed. That is a very big distinction.
Many tribes claim huge areas of private and federal lands based on historic use and breech of treaties. While there is no doubt all First Nations were subject to genocide and wide-scale land theft, it is not as easy as saying all claimed lands are tribal lands.
The issue is analogous to reparations.

They were indeed. However it is because they argue that their traditional land extends far behind their currently recognized legal land boundaries. They have a moral case for sure but the legal one is less clear.
They are effectively saying that even though huge areas of land are currently privately owned, they are in fact rightfully treaty lands.
For example, there is claim in Canada right now if front of courts arguing that half the province of British Columbia, millions of square miles, and populated by millions with dozens of towns and cities, is rightfully owned by a small tribe.
