I agree with this.
Make up for any shortfalls how? By paying twice as much into it so we can collect half as much as we were supposed to? Sounds great. The fact of the matter is, weâre not going to fix it in time, and my generation is going to get shafted big time. Weâre going to pay more so Gen X gets to collect, then weâre going to collect way less so that it doesnât collapse under our weight.
Itâs not your fault in Gen X, itâs the Boomers. They ran a huge ponzi scheme on the country.

I think some of you are missing @geewhyseeâs point comparing Kaine to Harris. They are both safe picks for donors, centrists, eDems. None of those groups have a problem with someone being a Black woman who asks tough questions.
As far as what it means for the election, I lean pretty hard towards VP pick not mattering much.

I honestly have no idea how you can think the eDems were behind him in the early stages of the primary. He was the very definition of the baggage they were trying to avoid and move on from.
The history of S.S. is that it was intended as a retirement supplement when designed. The people who first were on it heard âitâs your retirementâ and did no other planning. They were going to starve, which is why the fund started borrowing from future generations. The Baby Boomers crushed and can save S.S. overnight by dying. There were so many of them that S.S. canât sustain the future borrowing to support them, unless they all just up and die soon. Then there will be a big surplus.
Your mistake is in thinking anyone will try to âfixâ S.S. What will happen is some form of privatizing what you have in there right now (at a big discount of course!), and then the payroll tax for that will disappear forever. Do not be surprised if getting rid of the payroll tax for S.S. will be a trade off for M4A since you could very easily not fundamentally change anyoneâs tax situation getting rid of S.S. and applying that amount to M4A. I havenât done any math, but Iâm guessing the average personâs S.S. contribution is more than what M4A would cost as a deduction out of your paycheck (happy to be proven wrong).
When S.S. dies, itâs an on your own moment, it wonât be borrowing to save my generation. Just like everything else with my generation, weâll get the merry âF offâ.
Dem messaging strategies suck, but Bidenâs speech hit on some of those notes. Maybe his campaign wonât fuck it up and will hammer them starting Friday of this week. Nancy gonna Nancy.
I donât think the eDems were behind anybody early on, they were against Bernie, Yang and Liz. They werenât against Biden, they were neutral on Biden, Booker, Harris, etc.

Nobody currently over like 50 is going to get fucked. The chances that I pay a bunch into Social Security and get $0 out seem pretty high. I guess the youngest members of Gen X could get screwed pretty badly.
