I would guess part of what happened is Trump kept insisting the numbers had to be wrong. So he put his people in charge of them but then kept being told these numbers are real, and there’s no way to fudge them that won’t be immediately obvious. Like everything else he insists is easy to fix until he gives it a shot, now he will abandon that responsibility and let others clean up his mess.

In his defence both these things are sort of true (except the cleaning part). You can imagine someone explaining ladder fuel and coniferous vs deciduous trees to him and his peanut brain garbling into that mess.

As far as I know though the trees in California are predominately pine needle type which are faster burning. I could be wrong.
You are correct. Some of the species are really flammable like cypress.
