Basically “change or die,” like always. They concede it’s a massively uphill battle in the digital age where people expect free journalism and regularly balked at paying for it even before newspapers started going extinct. They also gave some real-world examples of how local governments were screwing over constituents because no one is shining any light on them at all, and talked about how much more gets done at the local level that affects our everyday lives than the stuff you hear on the national news broadcasts. It was very chilling/sobering.
The right can’t seem to understand work is about more than a pay check. Lots of studies show the actual pay is pretty far down the list of things that make a job good to people.
