In college I worked for a company that appealed real estate appraisals for taxes and that was basically their game. Every year the city would hike the appraisal value and the company would get it reduced a bit and get half the tax savings. Next year, city would hike back to same initial value (or higher) and the process would repeat itself.
For houses, pretty sure it was all just based on an algorithm. But for appraisals for business taxes, it was very subjective. The employee who did the best was always taking the appraisers to lunches, drinks, etc. Pretty sure he had a deal with them where they would hike more than standard so he could get a bigger âreductionâ each year. My job was to compile records to use in the challenge (tax records, comps, etc.), but for him, he never seemed to need any records, would just show up and get his reductions.
Customers were happy as they got big tax savings every year, and completely unaware how he was gaming the system.

ha i was watching jesse watters show on fox and they interviewed this guy about his 21 biggest trump lies book and the question was like âtell me a lie that people donât typically know is spread about trumpâ and the guy either didnât have anything ready or didnât understand the question because his response was something like âliberals say hes bankrupt but hes actually worth 10 billion!!!â and it was super corny. like i almost thought it was a real book up until that point.
