Iraq started it to seize territory and oil and it was a stalemate so objectives-wise I guess Iran won. They both suffered about the same amount of damage.
I already asked about this in the feature request thread. Zikzak says that with this new infinite scroll feature, there will not be any problems with lagging even with thousands of posts in a thread. He claims to have already tested it. Check that thread for details.
