This is also bothering me. Getting rid of the puppet is a hollow victory if the string pullers don’t go down with him. I sometimes just try to imagine in good faith what it’s like to be in her position position.
I’m being extremely charitable here, but let’s say you’re her and these are your options:
- Impeach and maybe convict but turn him into a martyr when he’s pardoned, and watch his children continue to play an important role in politics for decades to come, maybe even make a strong presidential run
- Let him play out his term but then stick him and his children in prison, ensuring the Trump name is banned from politics and forever associated with shame and criminality
If I was super old and thinking about what I want my last significant political action to be, I’d have a really hard time choosing between those two.
